Nice post, I also like this one as a few people have Okuma reels.

well done milchner, its something that most people will find interesting. I have friends who just leave their reel on the rod for the winter and dont even bother, or else dont know that they have, to release the drag imagine to take the reel apart, clean and service it. then they expect it to work perfectly. I have an Okuma titus and i have had it for around 6 years and up to now I never had any problems. It has been tried and tested on a 60Kg tuna.
I have to check about the drag washers... good site skip (the okum strip down site) to see about that grease....anyone knows where I can buy drag grease????  well done a very useful topic.

Shanook check out www.smoothdrag.com you can buy Cal's grease from there which seems to be recommended. Either that or Shimano Star Drag Grease I think it's called.

shanook must have been talking about me and my reels, only wash them after use and then oil them twice during winter and then a good spring before i use them again in summer, only once had problem, took them to the agent for maintance, had a very good job done on one of my Okumas which had problems and being a good client of his never charged me money. So I got good reels with good service.

Hi guys
some months passed and I want to update you.
Since my last posting about maintaining reels passed some months and we had a new idea.
The problem was that a lot of guys want to maintain their reels but don?t have a computer in their workshop. So we constructed a database where the user can download their documents and (if wished) print them. We began to add the tutorials in that database. This database is free and open for everybody and you don?t have to be a member of the big game board. It?s only a service for everybody who is interested.

So far you will find the following reel-tutorials in our database:
- Bearings Grease and reel repair tools
- Reel service tools
- SHIMANO Speedmaster IV
- Daiwa Saltist 30H
- SHIMANO Baitrunner A-Series
- Accurate 12 Twin Drag
- Avet SX
- Daiwa Exceler
- SHIMANO Charter
- Shimano Speedmaster III and IV

Of course we will add constantly more tutorials. I hope it helps you.

Best wishes and merry Christmas
Uwe
