Assist Hooks

This is one of the assist hooks I make myself. It's not so complicated to do. When I have time i'll do a write up with photo's showing step-by-step what one needs to do.
They do not neccessarily come cheaper than ready made assists, but you can make them in the most ideal lengths for the Jig that you intend to fish.

This example is a 7/0 hook. With a 7cm cord length using 150lb PE and solid ring on a split to avoid the usual nasty tangling problems.

Nice one mate! Looks as good as a shop bought one to me! Personally i like Shout! assist hooks.
But i love the idea of being able to make your own and tailor the cord length and hook size to your own requirements! Prosit!

Well done they're definately the way forward making your own.....what do you make of the theory that red heat shrink is more attractive to fish?

Yes i think it is,ive bought & used Shout! Snowbee assist hooks that are dressed with feathers & sparkle etc and i found they made a difference

Well to be honest when it comes to dressed Assist hooks they might make a difference. In my little brain it makes me think of a small fish struggling with a smaller baitfish when it is being jerked. Hence the predator will take advantage of the situation and grab the opportunity (pun intended). Kind of like the principle of the Inchiku.

Martin that Assist hook is a whole big Hybrid, the Hooks are Owner SJ41, the PE and Split ring are Shout! The solid ring is Maria. However, I might be soone going exclusively Shout! I spoke to their local agent, and I like the guy, honest and fair prices on high end tackle.

A hybrid of decent products though! I found owner hooks to be very good.Re the local agent he has some very good products in his shop & his prices of assist hooks and other little bits & pieces e.g holo stickers,split rings,high end swivels etc are fair.
He's also got some nice lures/jigs there too..in fact i bought a couple of nice Daiwa Saltiga jigs from him last time i was there..I intially went because i had a top ring bust on one of my rods and he stocks Fuji rings also at decent prices.
