Does anyone have any experience of fishing for sargi at night in the "Captain Morgan" area of The Strand, Sliema? What about using pole and float?

try running float.... however, last time i went, the biggest sargu was around 10-15cm, thus it was all catch and release...

At sliema i dont think its productive my friend. Fish there are too small the size they escape from nets. Although if you are lucky you can find some good sized sargu once in a while. Not in my case cause i never had caught a decent one from there!

What hooks size do you use to catch nicely sized Sargi please? And at what depth is ideal to set the float if fishing with simple hand rod? i.e. hooks close to the bottom or further close to the surface? Are they usually found more in ports or further out at sea? And are they best caught in the "rima" like Kahli??

Normally Sargi are found closieset to the bottom. If you are using a float try to bring the bait by the botom. Some times, when I use running float for sargi/awrat, i will attach the last weight (comba) about 30cm away from the hook, measure the dept on this last weight and I leave those 30cm on the bottom of the sea. As regards the rima, no you want catch the sargi in the rima. But it is not the first time that fisherman, while or after fishing for kahli, will put up the float a bit higher to fish in more dept and they will catch a sargu. Yes it will stay just under the Kahli.

You can catch sargi while you fishing for kahli i usually when i am fishing for sargi and imnieges the line is 0.22mm and the size of the hook is 7 at the bottom with comba i usually fish for them

Thanks mulett75 and Robby9. What is the main advantage of using a "running float" please? I thought it is used according to sea conditions, i.e. if rough or calm... OR maybe to let the fish run a bit with the hook (when hooked) before the float goes down? And when you say fishing with the hook close to the bottom for Sargi/Awrat etc..., how are you so sure that you will catch such specific fish? OR you will catch "any" fish usually found by the bottom (i.e. "tal-qiegh"?) sorry for any stupid questions 10x
