Advantages of running float:
1. You can float-fish in areas deeper than length of rod.
2. You can float-fish far out.
3. In the presence of wind, you can reduce distance between tip of rod and float (for better control).

sharktail, running float usually used only with rod + reel

generally true but i like to use a running float whilst fishing with a rod and no reel (pole). mostly cos the line is not being pinched whilst passing trough the float with its stick. The lesser pinches and knots you have the better as those are all weak points were you could expect your line to break when catching a nice fish ..... or the seabed.

One of the advantages of running float is that you can cast far away more than the pole could give you or fish in deep water (more than 9m) with a float.

Yes when fishing close to bottom may various fish could bite. The bottom is the habitat of most of the fish.
