do you know who gives you insurance if you are 24 years old. atlas you have to be over 25 years.

Just had a phone call from Laferla and been informed that they do not insure 9.9HP and less. So I had my frejgatina with the 9.9HP for some 6 years and was never insured on the engine. Unbelievable. Good thing I never had any claims.

Ian, Atlas confirmed they don't insure less than 9.9hp aux as it has to be removed each time. How big is your Auxilliary?

I would double check......Davina Pace seems to be the person who handles boat policies and she said it has to be removed?

When i started to keep the boart moored i checked about the auxilliary. Gasan could not cover it so i fished and checked around. Atlas did cover it and i insured with them I checked this on 3 different occasions just to be sure. I also refrehed when insuring this boat. Now looking at the policy doc what matters no just the verbal.

Atlas pulled the same trick on me on my engine.  my insurance policy with Atlas states that the boat, engine and all equipment is covered under a fully comprehensive policy.  When I went to put in a claim with Atlas concerning the damaged injectors, they pulled out a book and made me read a section which subjectively refers to the coverage that the engine is covered for.  Nowhere was it stated that the injectors were not covered, but nowhere was it stated that they were covered!!.  First they tried to blaim the damage on wear and tear, when I told them the engine has only 800hrs on it, and injectors DO NOT wear out after 800hrs, they said then it must be due to unforseen circumstances, such as contaminated fuel, and their advice to me was to sue the fuel station from where I was filling up!!.  Needless to say, come July this year, I will never ever insure anything with Atlas again.  I am hearing that MIB are a good insurer, and from what I was told by the surveyor, MIB actually did cover and pay up for damages incurred to the injectors.  This was also verified by the person who actually put in the claim with MIB.  To add insult to injury, during my last visit to MMA, I was asked what amount was I paying as insurance premium on my boat.  When I told them the figure, they produced a schedule with figures and premiums and it was clearly evident that I was being overcharged by Atlas to the tune of 150Euros per annum!!!.  So much for Atlas!

Is there anybody who actually has effective insurance cover for a small auxilliary engine of less than 9.9 hp left on the boat all the time, say for a 5, 6 or 8 hp engine?

It does not really affect me directly since I have a tiny 11 foot boat with a 3.3 hp engine which I take home with me but insurance would be a very important consideration if i were to upgrade to something a little bigger in the future.

Dear All,

Gasanmamo do insure outbaords below 9.9 but with certain conditions. Best thing to do is to call at head office and explain your requirements.

Just struck a great deal with Gasan Mamo insurance.  Across the board, I am now paying about 25% less on my policy then I was paying with my previous insurers.  Gasan Mamo are very willing to extend an offer to all forum members who own a boat.  This offer also includes auxilliary outboards.  I'll ask Nick to start a tread whereby the forum gets an idea of numbers and your policy dates, meaning when is your insurance policy up for renewal.   Gasan Mamo are very interested in extending a great deal to all forum members owning a boat.  I think we should give this some serious thought guys.

I started this post myself and I can assure you that when I enquired at Gasan Mamo they did not insure 9.9HP and below. I went to the Rabat branch and a very helpful Rita made queries in front of me with the head office and they specifically told her that they do not insure small engines. Ultimately I struck a deal with Laferla Insurance, whereby they insured my 9.9HP or future small auxiliaries. I already had the house insured and my previous boat, and when I told them I was willing to insure both cars, they did not hesitate to oblige. My overall package is very good compared to what I previously was paying.
