i'm quite new to shore fishing, and have a few questions:

1. wind: am i correct in saying that if it is windly, I should look for a place where the wind is blowing outwards i.e. from behind me?

2. since most of the water around the coast is not very deep (except from cliffs) i think that somehow i have to manage to get the bait and hook a bit far out from the coast - should this be done by using a float? or with a weight which is thrown far out?

i do not fish for anything in particular yet: i have not had any success, so anything is welcome.

As a general rule for shore fishing try to choose places where you d be uncomfortable. That is where the sea is rough and you d probably get soaked. Those people who look relaxed and comfortable while fishing are usually the ones that hardly catch anything decent.
