The thing is, the pastardella got very agressive once it caught sight of the boat, and was barely hooked up....it was literally hooked by the skin of its bill

Anyways, I was trying to Gaff it just below the gills, which on the second attempt, I did

Been quite a while since we hooked into a pastardella!!!

no Joe the fish got spooked once u tried to hook it and missed, then it went aggressive(cant blame the fish eh)....One thing for sure U WERE LUCKY TO LAND IT.... I have seen them throwing the hook with a few jerks of the head.
I think a review of the angle of the gaff hook is a good thing to look at.
ALL in all a fantastic video, so give us more. The bigger the fish the better. They come out nice from the flybridge. Well done.
We didnt catch anything so we didnt have to gaff any fish LOL.........

@Shanook: Actually I did gaff it the first time, but watch the video closely, and you can see the fish swimming up towards the bathing platform and releases itself from the gaff hook, that's when it went really balistic.

@Freedive: Didn't see you around on that day, but I guess you know better

......no seriously, I could see the hook just embedded in the upper bill, only just...so when the fish tried to shake off the hook, I had the leader in hand a shook the same way with it, which cushioned most of the shaking.

Actually The gaffer is a nick_name. Its old scottish speak for the gang leader!!. Even to this day, most scottish football teams call the head coach or manager the gaffer. Sir Alex Ferguson, the Man United manager (scottish of course, how else could he remain for 21 yrs managing the most successful team in the world) is commonly referred to as the Gaffer by most of the 1st team players!!. Even King Kenny (Kenny Dalglish - another scot manager -of course, obviously - but this time for Liverpool ) is also referred to as the gaffer.

What lure was that you got it on.
Not to be critical, but lots of fish are lost in the final stages. I think if the angler took a few steps back the gaff man would have been able to control the fish on the leader better.

Thanks Joe. the lure was a Williamson swallowtail 9 inches. The 'Angler' was a Swed who has never handled a rod in his life!!

Josef of Mr. Fish phoned me this morning and advised that a whole hour is being screened with regards to the Big Game Tournament on NET television. This can be viewed on Mr. Fishermen at 8.30pm THIS THURSDAY coming.. I guess that Josef also called you in this regard. Maybe you should post this info on the MFF.
