Arti 2 as i was reading your post , ithought that i was writing it my self , cause both of us have the same beleives in spearfishing . i know that its not that safe to go alone like u said , but  its very very hard to find d right buddy beleive me  BAGHIRA. i ve started this sport when i was 10 yrs  now i m 44yrs  only one partner i had that we really clicked together , but unfortuatly he stopped  a few yrs ago.

regards.

FABRIZIO.
If I give you a fish I'll be feeding you once, if i'll show you how I caught it I'll be feeding you for ever.

It's true sometimes its not always easy to find a spearfishing buddy when ever you want to go.  This summer I decided that I will dedicate it simply to spearfishing and although I dove with many different people, many a time I went alone. Although one cannot come to a conclusion that swimming in shallow waters alone is not dangerous, the risks of getting a Shallow Water BlackOut (SWB) decreases dramatically so when I go alone I stick to the shallows.  I also would like to congratualte Arti for his catches, I once to use to enjoy catching octupus because that is one of the main reason I got into the sport.  Today I rarely catch octopus because only few are of decent size and also when your hunting fish its difficult to keep an eye out for them.

hi guys,

your all saying good words but a for fish I don t care if I take people with me or not. I dive with a lot of guys, and strictly speaking the best I have are Giovanni, Simon G, Markcam, Freediver and Seahunter, not saying thatthe others im not good but or we dived only a few times or we are both captins where like this cannot work. I look at these guys as when there was needed safety they where always near me. I don t belive sharing places is that bad, cos as arti said there are instances where you have to make the dive and approach the fish and this comes only or by luck or by experiance. Lot of times Giovani used to see dentex where I couldn t see them, but why??? experiance!!!

About a month ago I went for a dive with Fabrizio. The first one together and we worked good considering that I was sick with the sinus. A thing I noticed in him was that he has a lot experiance, in every thing, places, breath, dive, approach and much more. I had a grouper in a cave and even like that he used to help me fining with the current. Small things but these make the perfect buddy.

Another thing is the free time, to get a buddy that meets your free time is hard, but if you trust your buddy and he does the same as you, then there s your buddy. At the moment me and giovanni have a nice grouper, over 35kg, I had the chance to go for it but then If i shoot it??? I don t see it fair if he does it with out me so I didn t go without him. Small things but when they are put up together that what makes friends. A thing that I like to consider as from a buddy, I don t like selfish guys, I m a person who gives a lot (as  I feel) and when I see my buddy that tries to get the fun all for him, I just move apart. Maybe he does this without knowing but I don t feel comftable in the water so thats not my buddy

baghira

Good guys.
Its seems we all share common ideas.
I did not say that I never went on my own, but I stick to shallow waters as markam said.
I have your same feeling guys. Its hard to find a buddy. In older times I had a guy who is now in libya, and I really missed his company. Since than, I had other buddies, but most of the times problems arise, either due to thrust, saftey, time shedule, different diving depths, and other issues, and you stop diving together. I am presently diving with seahunter, and we really flicked good. We have very similair attitude towards the sea, respect small species, competitive but not jealous, and we try to help each other the best we can. If we see a fish, we coordinate who is the best to go for it, and other small issues that make a complete buddy.
Thanks to emic I met this guy. One other thing that I would like to do is, to share or get some more experiance from others by diving once with some other guys. I do not mean finding a buddy, but some single dives with other members of this forum. Maybe even getting to know each others better.

For this reason, I would like more of you to attend to the next BBQ guys. It will be held on the 3rd October. We could share more opinions there face to face. I do this voluntarily, but sometimes I get disappointed that many of the members never turn out.

Fishing, fishing ,fishing thats all i think about.

Seahunter

I agree 100% with Emic and Baghira.  I think one should dive alone only in the shallows and when he has no option.
I know how most people think;
most people are afraid to trust a person with the places they found good,
also others simply won`t share techniques and views (they think that if they had to learn the hard way, they won`t help others) and that is wrong.  If all spearos were like that, till today I still know nothing.  The first few times I went with Emic he was all the time showing me errors I was doing, and when I stopped doing these errors, I improved a lot.  I learned a bit more safety and better ways to approach fish.  If you`re new some one has to help you or else you`ll just stick to the same errors.  But from my experience, good buddies like Emic, are hard to find.

Time schedule sometimes also continues to discourage from diving with others, and that`s a fact.  For example, myself, in the next 3 months I won`t have enough time to do any spearfishing or if I`ll have any it will be very limited to few hrs on particular days, but one has to try to find some one.

Lately, I went mostly with Baghira, a good buddy, for we have common time schedules and I think we are of the same level etc etc.
From this forum I also went to do some dives with Freediver, whom is also a very good buddy.

On Tuesday went to Sliema between Kavallieri and Portomaso.
I managed to catch 5Kg500g octopus and this fish:

I caught it to show it in the forum apart from good size. In maltese is called Sawrella ta' l-Imperjal. I think it is rare to encounter it close to shore. In english it is called White Trevally. It is somewhat similar to the Blue Runner which in maltese is called also Sawrella ta' l-Imperjal denbha iswed.

nice fish my friend I agree with you it is a little bit rare,in 20 years of spearfishing I only saw 2 of them.Caught one of them was about 3kg.Another thing you may be right that it is a SAWRELLA IMPERJALI but we call that KARANGIND. There are some differences between them.

Very nice catch , have not ever seen one of them caught in Malta before. Have seen them on documantaries but never in Malta. I guess there is quite alot of spicies that migrate through Malta & we do not know about them.
