EmicMalta Posts:1296 | June 30, 2010, 06:38:12 CET yes it can. I think it changes the temperature cos of underwater currents. At this time of the year it also starts the thermoclimate where fish does nt pass from it and one has to fish at that level. |
Jonathan Posts:307 | June 30, 2010, 05:57:46 CET 10x. Emic would the temperature change in the water be a sudden one? And could the difference in sea temperature at various depths be causing these strong current? |
EmicMalta Posts:1296 | June 29, 2010, 20:20:38 CET this week we had new currents in the west side of Malta. I don t know if this happens in the area of the alungi but last week the sea was 19deg and surface of 21 deg. Yesturday Lapsi was 16 deg (under 18mtr) and 22 in the surface. I don t think fish like this. But today I was fishing in gozo and at all depths it was 21deg. Well done Jonathan. Nice catch |
LapsiBoy Posts:883 | June 29, 2010, 19:35:02 CET It's true jonathon even last sunday the current was strong. The gps was reading 2-3 Knots less then the speedometer, which mean in the surface we where still doing 7 knots but the surface was also moving with the boat on it. I think one of the causes could be the change in temerature of the sea. |
Moonwalker Posts:585 | June 29, 2010, 19:28:58 CET Well done guys. About the currents I think its due to unsettled weather. Its only since last week that we got the calm seas so maybe we should give it a few more days to settle properly. |
Jonathan Posts:307 | June 29, 2010, 19:21:13 CET I'm really curious to know the reason behind the shortage of alungi so far this year. The sea water temperature according to maltaweather is 22c. Does anyone know what it usually is at this time of the year? I also noticed that we've had abnormally strong currents over the past few days coming from a North Easterly direction. This past weekend when it was a flat calm we had over 1knot difference in GPS speed over ground heading NorthEasterly versus heading Southwesterly. I also noticed that teh current was so strong that there were strong eddies off Delimara point. Is this normal? What could be causing such a strong current? Camkev even mentioned they had strong current in Lampedusa. Could this be related? Could it be the cause of the lack of fish this year? What does anyone think about these questions? |
