Tried some jigging yesterday for about 30 mins.  We were out for calamari at 4am, and I tried some jigging between dusk and when my fishing buddy decided to start trolling.  A fish found the jig interesting and had a go at it, but did not get hooked.  Conditions were not ideal since current was practically absent and we were not drifting at all.

Hi Spiru!  I haven't had any hits because I never went jigging!! :)  I just bought some equipment to get started, but since i do not have a boat, i need to go out with other people.  My usual fishing is spinning, not the easiest way to fish but once you go out a lot, experience will help you catch.  I guess jigging is similar, you have to read, research the internet, talk with people, and finally and most importantly, go fishing!  You learn through your mistakes and those of others.

Once you start catching fish you will quickly start realising what works best for you and the area you are fishing.

I'm interested in Jigging too. I have a feeling its ideal for our conditions. Saw some videos on YouTube and they are quite amazing.

Does anyone know where I can find some information on how to jig, maybe videos, etc...?

Nick, here we need to open an other topic. Live webcam with the vatican on the right side of the forum. So while writing and reading we can prey a bit more.

Nice fish Kev. This is our reward for all our sport difficulties

Can anyone advise what type of jigs are being used as there is various types of jigs & different models.

To choose jigs i just go to a shop and have a look there. The ones that i choose are the ones that i think are the best. But there are no specific lures that are being used.

dnt jst go to a shop and ask anyone there couse they are not at all informed about this type of fishing.

first of all the grammage is imp, a hight grammage is suitable for strong currents and deep waters. then the shape of the lure gives it a different action, eg if it is central or head balanced. eg. thin long jigs like the blue flame of yamashita are mostly suited for strong currents.

jst have a look in foreign forums mate to have a clearer idea

jigging is not intended for shore fishing mate. its called vertical jigging and the jiggs work well only when vertically retreived, so i don't think it is possible to practice from land
