Title: HELP.NEEDED, RE BOAT LICENCES
Post by: noztheviking on October 22, 2008, 18:56:31 CET
help NEEDED, RE, Boat licences.   Can any one of you good people on this site tell me what licences do you require for a small boat, Ie,say under 14 foot and less than 9.9 hp engine Does the boat have to be registered. does the owner have to be licenced. does the engine have to be licenced. I have my own 14 foot Icelander fishing boat at home here in England and have owned various boats for the last 40 odd years I have my VHF radio licence. I ask these questions because I have seen the small boats for hire on the harbour at ST Pauls bay and often wondered about the situation regarding licences with them. or would it be better for me just to buy myself a small dingy and small outboard for the time i spend in Malta. I hope that there is not to many questions and that you can understand what I am trying to ask thanks noztheviking

You need an S registration with Maritime authority.

I do not think it costs too much. Just a licence for the boat but not for the driver since it is under 100hp engine.

Some time ago we used to pay around 50euros for the first time registration and then around 12 euros every 5 years.

Noz, how much time are you planning on spending in Malta? If it's just a week or so here and there or are you planning on staying longer?
