Title: Fluoro Carbon Line
Post by: mrk274 on October 25, 2008, 13:29:04 CET
Hi guys, i always used lines which are coated with Fluoro Carbon. I us them to go fishing for saddled breams. Today i went to mister fish and i bought Duel H.D. Carbon which is made only of fluoro carbon 100%

Did any one try it? is it good?

I've tried it on my leaders when trolling and it didn't fail etc. Some of the best fluoro I've tried for the heavier line classes is Blackwater, this stuff it great and not brittle like some plus has inbuilt stretch unlike other fluoro's.

The stuff you're fishing for (breams) means you're probably using very small line diameters, but the Duel stuff seemed pretty good.

Skip,
you bought Blackwater fluoro locally, or from the net? I had stocked on Seaguar fluoro from America when I was visiting, but thats comming to an end. As you said its quite brittle but very abbrasive resistant. I thought I'll give blackwater a try.

Bought it from the net. Wasn't available locally, I still have some here if you want to have a look at it.

lately i've bought yamashita fluorocarbon from a tackle shop in italy, they told me its better than seguar, dnt know but its great cause i've already tried it.  in my opinion i don't think that flurocoated lines have an effect on visibility in water, for this they must be 100% FC

Never tried blackwater but heard good things about it too! i use Varivas flouro and again its not brittle & has a little bit of stretch to it.Its very popular in japan where the use alot for vertical jigging.
Again i didn't find anywhere to buy it locally so bought it off the net.

duel is quite gd, i've tried it out. you can use 0.60 FC lines for live bait trolling, VJ and some also use it to troll for alongi, but for me its a waste of money to use for alongi, i jst use a gd IGFA rated 30lbs

I tried all FC leaders this year on my lures but didnt notice any dramatic increases in strikes, but this year the water wasn't as clear as last year so maybe that's a thing

Have you tried yamashita out skip??

i mostly live bait troll and i used to use .50 or .45 monofilament as terminal usually double, but some fish used to cut my line so i decided to start using .60 FC.  At first i bought sure catch but beleive me i fished with it about 5 times and i never had a strike and usually i always get a strike. then recently i bought yamashita which i quite expensive. till now i used it just once and after beleiveme less then 5min i had a good strike but the predator did't swallow the squid, it just bit about 3mm below the hook and left just the upper part of the squid. i hadn't any more squid to try it out but i think its superb

Just a small question of out of point, when trolling with live bait, why do you prefer to hook the bait only with one hook and not with 2 ??

Two hooks.  Mr FIsh has ready made rigs whoch seem great, but I have not tried them yet.  Unfortunately there are in mono, and I prefer FC, but the rigging seems fantastic.

I think Ganni uses 1 hook as he said he was left with the upper part of the squid while the fish wasn't caught so I assume he uses 1 hook !!

One can use one hook, but you have to wait longer before striking since the fish has to swallow the bait completely.  I do not manage to hold back in these situations!!!

But if a predator stikes and just taked half of the bait it would be useles I think.
Talking from no experience just theory hehe

i never mentioned i use one hook. i always use 2.

if you practise regularly theis technique, you'll learn that it is a normal thing that fish attach without taking not even one of the hooks. you insert one at the top of the squid and the other in the siphon.  sawrel tal imperjal usally bite the tentacles off, just mm beneth the siphon without getting hooked.

the rigs at mr fish don't seem good at all. i don't like the hooks and the pilot doesn't slide easily and if you are using live bait, that is a mast as otherwise the bait will be dead by the time you've rigged it

They seem ok to me, but as I said before I have never actually tried them out.

its ok chris. rob i haven't tried them but a friend of mine has bought. if you like to use a specific monofilament you can't with these ready made rigs. and i don't like the hooks either
