Title: Any Luck Catching Squid from Land Up North
Post by: Buddhagrass on November 25, 2008, 09:31:37 CET
Yesterday me and Spitec were spinning for squids up in the northern area and strangely enough there was no sign of squids whatsoever. I remember last yr I had already caught around 15 big ones around this time of the year. I think the problem is that the sea temperature is still a bit warm and, could the barracuda infestation effected them squids ? Does the barracudas hunt on squids ?

St Pauls Bay Area  ;) ..... Marfa and Cirkewwa are doing quite good on small to medium sized ones. They've been catching them for over a month now.

I think its a question of conditions and luck. Yesterday evening I did not see one single sign of a squid, true. However on other days I was luckier. I have caught up to 5 decent sized ones in 2 hours, which considering, is not too bad from land.

The same Spitec ... no sign of squids yet. If it's not windy I'll go tomorrow again and if there is still no sign after an hour or so I'll just change the place and go somewhere else.

sry for the silly question, but whd don't you chande place??

2 years ago it was february i was fishin for sargi at tunny net, infront where 2day there is fuego and there was a nice number of squid and some cuttle fish. i didn't have tackle for squid with me but i managed to catch a monster cuttle fish of 700g using the landig net haha. why don't people go to fish for squid there?? maybe no one knows about the place?? and i think that only in january and onwars you can catch squid from there since the sea is very shallow, only 2m deep.

it must be an all round problem at the moment as I have not heard of anyone catching squid from land in the South niether. Only a few have been caught by the ones that go out with the boats.

Sea is still at 22 so i guess it is still a bit warm. I totally agree with you Tatanka that it's an all around problem. I spoke with many people and everyone is saying the same damn thing. Compared with last year it is a total disaster. We just have to wait and hope for the best.

Ganni,

Some of the biggest squids I caught where from Tunny Net, however you don't see much squid there before January / February.  I fish alot in that area as I live there, but ZERO catches before January.

Leonard.
