The strangest thing I ever used was a 1cm cube of ham... didn't do much though.
Think I had seen it used for fresh water fishing for some type of fish in Australia
Ham is actually an excellent bait for Fanfri (Pilot Fish). Last year I actually caught a dozen fanfri from beneath an FAD using ham which I took from my sanwich, as I had no alternative bait. Worked well for me !
so now you have to post something kenneth
let me start
Twistees (HA HA HA HA HA)
one of the best baits for Kahli
TRY IT !!!!!!
Some thing to laugh about
one of the amberjacks i caught this year had a (lucky strike) empty packet of cigs in its belly
I Think he had one hell of a smokin habit
hehehe, Now the twistees myth has been confirmed ! ;D
my girlfriend's dad used the exact same thing when he used to go for kahli
a friend of mine has been talking about using rice lately... will try to test it asap
Haha!!! I have caught 1 to 5 kg barracudas using biros (ball point pens) as artificial lures!
I accedently descovered that trolling a piece of nylon rope is an effective way of catching cudas
by accedently i mean i was trolling and caught a nylon rope while pulling it up saw cudas chase
good luck guys
Hi guys
Dose anyone knows how to do a bait called (farka)
Farka .... there's many different ways, tricks and techniques how to get a good farka.
Get some nice bread preferably curly bread (fancy).
Put bread in some luke warm water till bread is full of water (mifquh) - 5-7mins
then put bread in cold water for just 30secs.
Pull out bread and soak well. Remove as much water as you can .
Preferably put farka overnight in a fridge.
There's also imported farka which you can get from local tackle shops.
As with everything else I suggest that you start making your own farka and improve with time. :-*
well i did once catch a marina with bread while using the running float it wieghed 1.5kg
Hey Guys,
Was just wondering if anyone has tried this product which I found on Maltapark? I was thinking of trying them out this Friday night...
GREEDY BAIT - FAT WORMS!! These are freeze-dried ragworms (hniex) which you can keep for A WHOLE YEAR! When you want to use them, simply add any sort of water - salty or fresh - and the bait is an extremely effective substitute for FRESH bait. This means : (1) You will not have to use all the fresh bait within a few days before it dies (2) you save A LOT!! - this bait comes in packets which each cost lm 2.50 - if you buy the equivalent in fresh worms, they would cost around Lm 12!! (remember that these last for a whole year without refrigeration!).
Thanks,
Darren
what shop can i buy these from?
From fishing world in naxxar
sounds a bit dodgy to me . picky fish always prefer the freshest bait available. but it wouldn't hurt to give it a try eh
Well I went and it seems they have not recieved a full consignment yet (they will be available in a couple of weeks time..
The good thing is that they opened a pack and gave me one for free to try it out...should be doing some bottom fishing this weekend - I'll tell you how it went...
By the way have you guys tried or had any success with the Xnix (sorry for the spelling) Paste which they offer...they say you can ball it up on your hook..
djc
my friend tried this greedy bait. he was disappointed did not catch any. by the way he said it is really smelly. not smelly in the good way like gambli but in the bad way. cimiterji
I always keep a pkt of greedy bait in my fishing box just in case. I tried it during the day using paternoster rig and did not get a bad result. A kahli and a nice trillja from Ta'Xbiex rocks. I buy them from Mr Fish Gzira. Gluck!
I once caught an 8kg kaplatt using chips as bait in Senglea creek. The rig was .35 line from tip to hook with no sinker. I was fishing at night from the jetty. It could be that the oil ousing out of the chip attracted the fish.
Last week i tried Puff pastry....and guess what succesfull!!! :o.especially for mullet.
I have tried these greedy worm and had no luck for the first couple of times but the last time I used them , I spoke to the pet shop owner and found ot that I had to soak them for a 1min or 2min before use and lay them on a piece of kitchen roll to absorb the excess water. When used them like that it was not a bad days fishing but I would still prefer the fresh ones I would say they are good to have as back up.
Berkley Power baits plastic maggots (white and red coloured ) on the jetty at Buggiba harbour in may when i was last in Malta.they caused a riot people were falling about laughing. But they caught fish so I was happy Iwill be bringing some more when i come back at the end of this month
They are used to their tried and tested methods here, so I'm not surprised they were laughing, but looks like you had the last laugh!
We were fishing for mulett last time,i was eating maccaroni. After i finished i saw some left overs on the floor and tried to fish with them........and walllllaaaaa a very nice mulett!!! :) ;) ;D
Has any body tried the tomatoes? I have a good experience, Got a xilpa, a khlija and a spnotta. Want to know the stagest one, yes I fished with a cocroce (wirdina) for spnott and same the result was a catch.
lol issa isbah....... Wirdina...... nice bait mulett75 lol :D
Translation :
lol nice one ....... cockroach..... nice bait mulett75 lol :D
lool? from where got this idea m8??:P
I heard of strange baits, I can take slimey snails, wrigly worms, nippy crabs even stinkey mackarell......but no way am I going to grab acockroach and bait it...........just gives me the creeps.
Pizza loool ::)
Pizza is not that strange Sj,we used to use it when fishing in shallow water in wied il-ghajn for mullet.
roasted chicken breast, landed a nice 2.5kg spnota at night on a 4m pole riged with .20mm line a hook size 12!!! (Quite an experience for a 12 year old back then)
a sliced olive landed a cervola when fishing on the floats after a sunday swim. and pieces of bread landed 4 fanfri.that was the only thing left in our lunch box.
when i was a kid i caught a mazzun with a housefly!
Human flesh ???
Once we were swiming and an octupus - 1/4 hg decided to roll on my feet.
Obviously they I used my hand.
Other strange bait is meat leftovers from the butcher - all you can imagine that is not sellable.
Once tried worms foung in the soil to no success.
Heard of birds that have been used also.
dry roast chicken breast......... landed a 1.5 kg spnotta on a 4 mtr pole, 0.20mm line and a size 12 hook, @ night in summer....... i was 12 at the time...... lol
"Wirdiena" for spnott. They realy make a good floating bait.
Tried prickly pears last year, the guy that I bought them off said that all you had to do was peel them and then slice them up and eat them, BAD MISTAKE, got them to the hotel grabbed hold of them and started peeling with the knife Ohh the pain, my fingers were like pigs trotters but full of sharpspikes, then they proceeded to swell up like balloons,I was in chuffing agony, then in the bar that night all the clever ones said OHH you should hve soaked them in water for 24 hours and then worn gloves, by then it was a little bit to late the damage had been done, so the moral of this story is if you dont know what your doing leave it alone
Guys since I forgot. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
As 'alf" I have to recall a story. We were on our last cima the 25th. No catch at all not even seen a lampuka. Frustration was at its peak at the day was just starting. We stopped took breakfast and coffe. Just as we approached by current the cima we saw arounf a douzen fanfri to little for the net so I tried fresh clamari to no avail. My cousin had an argument with his back bottom and he emptied his storage in the usuall bucket. (il barmil tal Ha..). As soon as he finished we were some 20 phatoms away from the cima. He dumped the contents and proceeded to wash the bucket. Immediately the fanfri can attracted by the ..... Out of laughter I still had the famfri xlief in the sea and before I noticed the fanfru was on board. At the end we managed 5 or 6 fanfri. We had a massive laugh and we still recall this story at every fishing trip as my cousins bottom gets excited at sea. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I know its hard to believe but so it was.
Now we have a new saying - ''Il hmieg igib.''
mellieha, ara jibdiex jibottiljah ha! lol
Nahseb li fresh ahjar ;-)
lol lol tajba din mellieha. Imbad jigu jghidulek oqod attent minn fejn taqbdu il hut ghax ikun hazin specjalment jekk ikun mill portijiet.....
Guys, I live down in New Zealand and we have some pretty weird ways of catching fish down here at times. A couple of examples of "strange" baits that I have used over the years would be:
- Trolling a 12/0 Kingfish hook behind my boat with nothing but a small piece of tin-foil wrapped tightly around it. My success to date includes: 1 x 18kg kingfish, 5 x albacore, a 12kg spanish mackerel and at least 5 - 6 chomped lines by passing but rather inquisitive mako sharks...lol
- Using a live baby snapper as bait for a giant adult snapper. When I was a kid I caught many, many huge snapper right off the wharf, using a handline.
tried rabbit liver last summer. I took it by mistake, but it worked
i trolled with the election vote but i never cought anything!

I used bacon and I landed a small octopus.
Someone told to use Tuna Heart for bottom fishing he said it is really good. I have never used it. Anyone tried it?
