Hey mate. You can transfer calls between yourself and other fishermen over channel 6. Channel 12 is for valletta port control. Keep 16 as an emergency channel only.

We usually use channel 6 to communicate between us. For example if i am out and i know that someone else whom i know is out i call him using his call sign. Example of someone calls me they usually call out bigboy

You can call valletta port control and do a radio ceck on channel 12.

Call using this method:

>Valletta port control valletta port control
>[name of boat]
>>> Valetta port officer will answer
>I would like to do a radio ceck
>>> Valletta port control officer will answer again
> Thanks very much
>out

I have the fish finder and GPS from the Cobra range. They have fulfilled their expectations to me. From the reserch I did before buying them they are a very good marine electronics compary.
Yes White Sails opposit black pearl is the agent here in malta.

Hi Pupu take care that it has the CE mark on it and the certificate of declaration with it because it will not be allowed it Malta . I have had that experions myself with one of these cobra vhf witch I tryed to import to Malta but had to send it back.

went to agent  of cobra and got told the same thing, so what mark you need,  to know if its good for malta

It has to be CE approved and has international channels not USA channels. Best to do is to print a copy of the VHF model with specifications and ask at customs.

Instead of customs, it is better to ask the Malta Communications Authority. Attached are questions and answers re. the VHF issued by the MCA (the document is in Maltese). I think it answers your questions..

I suggest that if there is only a small difference if bought from White Sails, you talk to them and maybe get a discount. At White Sails they offer a very good after sales service.

whats the price of a fixed unit

if the boat is the same, you can use the same msi number. the msi number belongs to the boat not the radio.

If its the Cobra MR F55 EU (DSC) set its the same as mine, & fully compliant with EU regulations, ;) ::) I have a VHF licence & the set has been declared to OFCOM in the UK & an MMSI number & callsign have been issued to me. They are a very popular set back here & they are at a reasonable price as well (well they were when I bought mine). There was a Declaration of Conformity in the box with mine, & it has a CE Marking of CE0682
