Dont know if anyone likes the idea but this morning i was thinking about starting a thread about going fishing >3nm with small boat,
everyone says you have to be mad to go fishing >3nm with one motor , so why not go with 2 small boats, in that way it's like having an extra motor so it's safe. and having a small boat i thinks everyone wants to catch the big one's ax incahdin. anyone agrees? i
Hi pupu tell you the truth I don't see anything wrong to go 3knM out with a single engine giving that the engine is reliable and it can get you in port in a relatively short time in case of bed weather. BUT while saying this I am assuming that the skipper has an amount of experience in off shore boating and has the necessary safety kits on board, like VHF, signaling devices ecc ecc. Preferably one can choose to stay in the sight of other boats and inform family what are his intentions (time to stay out and area to be fishing in). But having someone else with another boat very close to you is always better than being alone. Still I believe that even if you go out fishing in 2s The above suggested precautions should be always taken no matter how much boats you are.
I agree with you 100% fish eye. I like going out in 2s with friends on other boats so if something happens at least there is help. It is important to know you engine and know its limits. With my 13 footer i usually venture even up to 12nm but then i am always carrying mobile, vhf gps etc. On the other hand i know that if something happens friends of mine are only a phone call away ;)
True true, important thing is to threat your engine right ehh..If you push it to the limmits there as a much bigger chance of something going wrong ;) Threat your engines well there the only thing that you have out there ;)
Personally on our 2 boats we both have inboard engines but when we are going to be going out further than 5Nm we also carry and outboard motor..And always carry a pair of oars
