Title: crimping set & crimps
Post by: benri on April 12, 2009, 15:43:24 CET
Does anybody know a source where I could get a crimping set and crimps for mono and fluorocarbon please? I have never crimped mono/fluoro before and have absolutely no idea what it entails. It's just that i'm trying to rig my lures with fluorocarbon and it's too stiff for tieing a rapala knot.

Benri get good crimps as you will be dealing with powerful fish.

the ones we get for tuna and swordfish longlines are great

benri go down to george of marsaxlokk and ask for crimps used for longlines. He will give you crimps according to what diameter of line you will be using

What's the line rating of the fluoro you bought? 60lbs?

You usually need a Size S (0.8mm) crimp which is good for 0.60-0.75mm 40-60lbs line

I didn't have any luck finding them locally that small, and highly recommend Momoi's crimp sleeves.

One little 'trick' that I was told was after crimping, get your lighter and carefully heat a bit the mono that is exposed to create a small bulge. If your crimp does start to clip it has to pull through that as well.

The crimps we get for swordfish leaders are good for 0.70 - 0.90 mm lines.
