Guys,

I will come if the competition will be done on Sunday since I work each and every Saturday. uffa  :-[

Regarding the boat it is not a problem but it all depends on the day.

Maybe something to consider in next calendar would be do do a competition in a public holiday.  Only a suggestion.

We didn't do it on Sunday as it's father's day! It will remain as a backup day due to bad weather.

I had noticed that to be honest.  But I made it a general comment since also the land spearfishing competition is on a Saturday with a backup on Sunday.  Whilst some competitions are on a Sunday with a different backup date.

Nonetheless I appreciate that a suturday could be chosen because it is much less busier with boats and much more safer for spearfishers.

In fact it was suggested to us that most speros prefere to go down saturdays.

Saturdays will be better maybe we get better space. pls remember for boat traffic. We also have to get some money for the safety boat fuel too

I am in for this competition, provided that i find either a boat, or will be good weather for my 11 foot dinghi (if I will still have it). Need also to confirm my buddy.

i would come but you found the exact day when i finish exams. probably while you are spearing i will be doing cash flows and investment appraisals.... lol

Mt easy times are over.  In the real world it is harder with much tighter deadlines.  Believe me I finished UNI last year and it is much more relaxed there.

yeah i know what you are saying, already tried my hand in the professional world, you never stop studying and deadlines are tighter.

I forgot to tell you last time.  My cousin is selling his, ghax zarma.  Its with gps, fish finder, water proof stereo (naqa sound mhux hazin), Johnson 70 and I forgot the make of the dinghy (zodiac or bombard 16ft).  If your interested send me a pm and ill send you his phone number and call him.

How much depth is required to dive for these competitions? Do you know some professionals in Malta that I can talk to so as to learn? If anyone knows some sea kings I will be more than obliged if somebody tell me some names to contact!!!

I had heard that they had dumped poisonous material in the area and there were no fish for ages in the area.  apparently it didn't recover completely until this day.   

I dont know ??? ??? ???, but i think its because of over fishing as every where else over the island. It was impresive the amount of breams and meagres we use to see there. :o :o :o

Being from outside the sport, since I'm into boat fishing, I couldn't but admire the unity and spirit that was present amongst all the teams. Well done to all again.

i didn't understand it

Unfortunately Baghira and Seahunter were unable to participate as it seems none of the others were willing to drop them off somewhere with their boat which is very disappointing and far from comarderie/forum spirit. It's still not clear with whom they had agreed to be getting a lift from beforehand, as ideally these things are sorted out in advance and not on the day.

I wish to inform everyone that should this ever happen again regardless of who it is the competition will be cancelled on the spot ....this is NOT what the forum is all about - we're supposed to be a community helping each other out. I don't expect that a 2nd team comes with you to your spots but they can be dropped off somewhere close and picked up again at the end.

Whilst ideally everyone has their own boat in such a competition there are going to be times when assistance is needed and there were certainly some boats that could have helped, as much as there was another boat already helping and some that couldn't physically fit any other people, something could have still been done. Whilst also acknowledging that this was a competition and so the competitive side of people comes out in full force, the team that didn't have a ride could have still been dropped off at the begining and picked up at the end.

There was also an unforunate break down in communication which contributed to this incident because I was available with my boat on the sea for any problems but it seems that Baghira and Seahunter were not made aware of this in the morning as I would have happily taken them to a spot and picked them up for the finish.

As with any competition there are certainly lessons to be learnt for us the organisers to avoid such occurances from happening....it was a great day but left me extremely angry when I was made aware of the situation by the evening and found out what had gone on. What people do in competitions organised by others is up to them, but everyone has to pull their weight when there are people left stranded due to mitigating circumstances.

We got a fantastic line up of prizes from the competition sponsor Beuchat Malta (The Dive Warehouse) and an additional sponsorship from H20 Only who provided water for all the competitors, and Beachaven kindly allowed us to use their facilities for the finish and to present the prizes - A Big Thank You to Them all.

A big thank you also to BG who took the photo's at Beachaven and helped organise the prizes and table layout along with SimonG's other half (Sarah), and to Ramio who came down to help :) I would also like to thank Acciola who took the pictures on the water.

Well done to all. Sorry couldnt make it as had fuel problems with shanook. All ok as it was just the filters, but by the time i cleared it was already 1.15.

I would like to apoligize to baghira and sea hunter who unfortunatly where left stranded due to a breakdown in communication. I would have hoped that someone would have at least offered to drop them off or taken them to the holding area at sea.

I unfortunatly was not there when they left as i was giving skip a lift to his boat and by the time i returned to pick up another team they where gone. Sadly had a simple phone call been made before the team left the pier well before the competition started, things would have been sorted out.

I really enjoyed the competition but really felt sorry after wards when I got to know about my friends Baghira and Seahunter not being able to find a pickup. I hope next time we'll be able to communicate more. Unfortunately my left Omer Ice fin broke in half just around 1hr30min after the competition started. Still waiting for a reply from Aquatica about how we are going to proceed.

As I told you, I just seen your reply in the forum. With us was impossible due that already we where in 3. As when they told us that you had started from land then we agreed to see you at beacheven

Prosit to the winners of the competition and to the other teams finishing second and third! Thanks to the organisers and sponsors especially Pawlu and kids from Beuchat for their support in our sport. Not much people show such support in many beginners such as us in Malta. Although it was a competition held between a minority of amateur spearos it was a success since there was a spirit of friendship between eachother, no tedious rivality before during and after the competition (that might contribute to unnecessary tension)......and after all no accidents happened! Another congratulations also goes to the organisers such as skip and SimonG......thanks a lot as I understand that its not easy to organise a competition even though it was not on a very large scale of competitors!
I'm also sorry for the guys who couldn't manage to compete......but keep up the spirit for the next time mates.....I'm sure that one day we'll be competing out at sea against each other on a crevice full of sea breams and meagres(....daqs kemm ghad fadal hut!!!). To cut things short we'll learn from these mistakes! Perhaps who knows if we could orient this forum's thread in what could have gone better...maybe next time some arising points may be used for a better organisation of how things may evolve.

this is why I wrote that it was a very succes competition. No matter the standard and experiance we all have, but this pushes up new spearos and teach us differnt kinds of fishing one can do. Here in Malta we do not have information regards our sport, but in just a couple of years this forum is helping to comunicate and arrange mistakes

To cut things short we'll learn from these mistakes! Perhaps who knows if we could orient this forum's thread in what could have gone better...maybe next time some arising points may be used for a better organisation of how things may evolve.

I agree for a pre-competition meeting for briefing the rules and saftey standards, and other basic issues.
I have attended for yesterdays alongi competition briefing, and it was absolutely marvelous, and professional. Everyone is now aware what are all the pros. and cons. which were all outlined very well.

Well done for the professionality we are heading to, and also for the good speakers.

Thanks for the support Baghira, whilst it can be a 'hassle' for everyone to come down for such briefings and pre-comp meetings I do feel they are essential no matter how small or big the competition is. Certain issues get clarified and sorted out.
