Title: leadering fish on a spreader bar - not that hard!!!
Post by: Fishmagician on August 29, 2006, 00:39:02 CET
One of the most often asked questions I get from the inexperienced fisherman is how to leader a fish to gaff caught on a spreader bar. Whether alone or working with another angler, I'll bring the fish up one side of the boat, as it goes ahead. Once the fish is calmed down, I'll reach out and take the center line of the spreader bar and control the fish for the gaff man.  If it's a smaller fish and the gaff isn't necessary, I'll reach down close to the fish get a good hold on the line and swing him into the boat. If the fish is very large, I'll put a third person into the equation and have him take the main line of the spreader bar and control the fish for the gaff man. Put 'em in the boat - fish like a pro!!! ;)

Hey mike,

maybe a silly question , but how do you not get the other lines in the way during the gaffing or hoisting of fish  on board? Plus, is ever grabbing a fairly large fish from the tail not a good idea as well as from the leader?
