Title: Swordfish
Post by: 148148 on October 19, 2009, 15:21:10 CET
Does the season open November 1 or 30th? Just got back from Tunisia, they must never stop the season as they were selling swordfish the size of snapper

Cheers, but no, plenty of swordfish in the Tunisian market of Sousse all caught very small and they wont be growing and swimming to Malta

the reason that they closed the season for these two months is that at this time a lot of small swordfish are caught. but if the other non European countries continue to fish for them nothing will be achieved from this close season

How far out do you need to be for them? And how close to land as an alternative

I saw a fully grown one too early in sept. about 100-150m offshore,it was chasing lampuki and sounding on the surface with just its dorsal fin showing every 50m (and it was one hell of dorsal fin too!) or so & approx heading towards gozo...Not that you need the fin to find it though, with all those lampuki jumping out of the water in front of it!!!  :o
Actually it messed a very good days fishing for me,but was an awesome spectacle to witness on the otherhand! Never seen one that big so close to land before. ;D

Hi Guys,

I was surfing on the internet and watching some videos and I came across this very interesting video about sardines being attacked by stripped marlins: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2kQF7eWkIs

enjoy!
