Question:
Which jig colour is the best?
Option 1: Pink
Option 2: Green
Option 3: Blue
Option 4: Yellow
Option 5: Orange
What do you guys think?
I go for the pink and Yellow...
my preferred one is orange ;)
i have been most successful on redheads
been catching mostly on orange and green occasionly blue.
Maybe I am wrong but I don't think that the squid see any colours but mostly the jig shadow. Having said so the red/pink coloured jigs produce more shadow than others. However orange & green are very good jigs.
I prefer pink/red, red heads and occasionally green.....but I personally think that the type of jig and the way you make the jig move makes all the difference. Also other factors - current, conditions of sea & sky (clear or not) etc etc
pink,green and natural colours.
Green on Moon Bright Nights, Orange/Red on moonless nights.
In mine opinion orange/pink.
I Quote skip here:
Quote6. Red and orange lures come into their own in tannin stained waters, as do fluorescent hues.
Greg has deliberately overlooked a key topic here - the use of color combinations, patterns and contrast to increase hook-up rates which can be very significant, so bear that in mind.

well done for that info, however regarding color it is very well explained in that link...Color does make a difference even if squid does not see any color...
looks like Pink and Green are still the top ones mostly used yet
i catch squids with green jigs in the light and orange and pink jigs are good were there is no light
Been catching on all colours ;) If the squid is there forget the colours my friends ;)
Colour selection seems to be something that should be determined according to the lighting conditions, whether there is more or less light, moon light etc. Colour makes a difference only for the shadows they produce.
xi hadt prova z zebco jigs u sabhom tajbin?

Profs Drury has spoken......... ;D lol.....

sry ridt nghid meta ikun hemm id dawl l ahdar u meta ikun hemm ftit dawl ahmar/ orange tajjbin
but from boat?
l put more importance on jig action rather than color.
Probably u are all right. In my opinion....
I believe that the colour is there for us to change the lure. Let me explain
If u are catching on ur favourite colour and u put more lures of same colour do u catch on all of them or u seem to keep catching on same lure that u started with?
The difference is in the currents and the temperature. No lure is exactly the same so its different action for different currents. We associate the colour because lures act differently and thats why sometimes one catches on blue and not on red, other times its on green and not orange, its because of the action of that particular lure at that particular moment.
So have different colour lures and experiment that way u know which one is working right for the actual current and conditions that there are down there.

Digger, forget tataki with mono. Those lures might work occasionally with the traditional way of fishing calamari, but they are designed for light rod and braid use. They need to be animated with short repetitive jerks, a bit like jigging.

What colour did you find best this season mates, since this topic seems to have stopped?Squids are still being caught in less quantity but of nice sizes!
hi spitec... i had a few strikes on green/orange ....but the best for me was pink
all colours mate :)
When there were squid we caught on all colours
all colours spitec...... i caught on pink green blue orange white and yellow.......
Mostly when fishing on a boat you can catch on everything but when people go fishing from land and in places like Cirkewwa and Marfa which are crowded with people squids tend to go for a certain colour on certain days.Since this year i only went twice I can't say which colour worked for me best but the squids I caught were on pink.A lot of friends of mine went for green and even on violet this seson and had good results on both!
are they still being caught from land?
Very few but nice sized my friend.
just been speqrfishing at Xlendi qnd saw them twice. It s not normal to see them during the day but this time they where small
Yes my friend they are catching them during the day aswell this time of year and even for the size I heard there are small size squids being caught aswell.
