Title: Rod Holders
Post by: SteveGB on February 10, 2010, 17:04:23 CET
Hi nies,

anyone can help?

I need to buy 2 road holders which are adjustable and can be attached to my rails to use for deep sea fishing and also trolling. I have looked around on internet and the ones I have found that seem good so far are the cannon ones:

http://store.cannondownriggers.com/products/325074/Single_Axis_With_Rail_Mount

(Unfortunately the duel axis rod holders cannot be attached to the rail mounts)

The only problem is that im not sure if the rod holder can be separated from the rail mount easily. It will be too much of a hassle to stay attaching / removing the rail mount together with the rod holder every time i have to cover the boat, or is not fishing etc.

Anyone owns similar rod holders? or can someone suggest some other brand which will fit my needs? I am currently in the US so i can order from any American sites etc.

Will appreciate any type of suggestions.

Thanks a lot,

Steve  GB

could not find a better pic on the net but i hope this helps. it's very practical and made of very strong plastic( no corrosion, withstands the elements for many years)

Thanks OKUMA for your help,

I already have similar rod holders...the problem is that its very difficult to adjust such rod holders when your pulling up a few fish and a heavy weight when ur deep sea fishing. I need something that you can adjust with the use of a lever like the cannon ones so when the fish/weight arrives at the surface, you can adjust the rod holder to a vertical position and grab the line/fish without needing to remove the rod from inside the rod holder.

I bought some from Gauci Borda as well but I'm not sure if they meet Steve's requirements. Having an easy to remove rod holder also implies it won't be that strong so bear that in mind.

You could also check out www.tacomarine.com for ideas and see what westmarine.com can offer

you should find the type you require from this site. this is where I got mine from and they're excellent quality. Mine are the type with two keys and can be adjusted to any position you wish. At the end of the day I just fold them away and cover the boat - you can even remove them if you want but be careful not to lose the key when loosening it altogether.

I have build my rod holders myself from SS. I used a design from KF catalogue. Will post some pictures when I get some free time - not very soon.

As usual I constructed my own so did Ramio after perfecting my initial faults. We both have swivel type for deep sea and the rods stay Horizontal when they are with the weight and as soon as u bring it up, u can tilt it vertical and as soon as u handle the line (thus taking the weight off the rod) it stays vertical.
It is very convenient and easy to make nothing special. And if u need to take off the rod completely its comes off without any hussle.
Will take camera with me next time to garage. Anyone wants to copy just pop over to Burmarrrad.
