Post by: malliadan on March 09, 2010, 15:20:14 CET

Once you get the boat of course complete with outboard and fuel as you would leave it on the mooring. Put the boat (if you can in birzebbugia, the water is dirtier there) and leave it for 3 days and you should have a nicely marked water line. take out of water mark it with wax pencil.
or else boat in water as above u go in water and mark the waterline with wax crayon.

put the the boat afloat fully loaded that if possible mark with a marker  afterwards put a  shore and jot down a line with masking tape .

i did so using a small tender boat . :)

On the front of the boat i.e where the side of the boat starts to turn and where the bottom stops cut the masking tape at an angle inwards. thus when looking at the boat the antifouling looks straight. a bit difficult to explain.

Malliadan: if the boat is unique, then you have to find the waterline using the methods explained above.  If there are other boats around the same as yours, they you can get a rough idea where the waterline should be by observing the waterline(s) on similar boats.  Also, if the boat is built locally, then the boat builder should be able to help you here as well.  Talk to the owners of the boats in question.
Keep in mind the following:  The water line should be about 2cm above the water mark with the boat fully loaded with fuel, engine(motor), water and 2 persons.

Daniel I expect that u didnt understand the part of the masking tape as Ian said its not easy to explain thats why i suggested he meets u at b'bugia. AS Gaffer said u can talk to the manufacturer he will be able to help.
