Title: Carver 280
Post by: Spirit of Jason on March 14, 2010, 10:48:55 CET
Hello
Hope I am publishing this in the correct topic, if not I applogise.

On the SOJ the front hatch/sky light in the roof of the cabin, sorry I dont know the correct name.
One of the kids has stepped on it and there is a crack in it now, nothing to serious, but it does let in water when it is raining, I have applied some sealant to the crack which has helped, but it just does not look nice, if you know what I mean.

The hatch is made from coffee coloured perspex, I wondered if any of the forum members may know where I could either purchase one or get one made.

Thanks in advance.

Captain Gus

I know there is an outlet in Sliema Road, Gzira by the name of Gesco signs who are very good at custom cut perspex. They charge a bit on the high side though!

Most boat hatches are made by Lewmar and I doubt what you have is perspex, it's more likely to be glass. Not sure who the local agent is but he might be able to repair it

I had the same problem on my boat (on more than 1 hatch) and yep my hatches are Lewmar.

Lewmar did not have the perspex only.... if you want, you can try to get a quote for the whole hatch but make sure that you're sitting down when you hear the price coz you're most likely to faint!  :o

I replaced the perspex at Gesco... they've been around 2 years now and they look as good as new :)

Thanks very much guys, for yet another great response to a question.
I will try the local shops first, Skyline and Gesco and see if they can repair the hatch, or cut me one to size from a suitable material, all I know, it is made from some sort of heavy duty plastic.

Thanks again.
