Post by: givella on June 25, 2007, 13:55:09 CET
Hi guys,
What do you think of the catch. This is the third time I went out with my new boat and the first time for Alungi. Can't explain the wonderfull experience. This fish really fight.
Very pleased with the catch.

Well done on that catch - as Skip said you're one of the very few who has managed to catch alungi so far this season! How many miles offshore did you find them? And at what time were they striking? Keep it up :)

Thanks Guys for your comments.
I hope it is not beginner's luck :)
I went out last Saturday at around 7.00am. I hooked the first two at  8.30am and was approx 6nm out.
The third one hit at 10.45am and was 14nm out whilst the last one was caught on my way back at around 12.30pm.

To tell you the truth I was going to return home only after 30 min because there was such a heavy fog in the morning. Valletta Port control were announcing this from time to time.
By the way I was trolling at 7.5 knots. Do not know if this is the right speed but at least it worked for this time.
Cheers

nice fish. average speed of 6kts is ok. but i think if you are fishing with a rapala and a weight is better to reduce the speed.

Very nice, and well done!!! 'Alungi'? Looks like some kind of tuna species. Maybe Albacore? Can anyone please confirm. What gear do you guys use over there for this type of fishing? Again, Well Done!!!

Indeed Joe, they are Albacore. I think most guys here tend to use 30 - 50 lbs tackle, with various artifical lures, mostly squid. Some people do use Rapala's but I've found when you have more than one rod out they are a pain in the butt!

We caught a few on cedar plug daisy chains and even Jetheads.
