1st time I used it was in Rome was about 8 yrs ago. Its very interesting and was really cheap. For 4 hrs we paid something like 2.50 euro. Its really safe and easy to drive in/out. These are project that Malta need.

i think the opposite way. You have to see how many cars they can put in it and earn space.. so more cars. This was perfact for the park and ride. This is just like a store where they put cars in shelves. like this they only have to leave space for a car to pass in the corridor not like in a parking there is need to leave space where to turn.
You just place in in a garage and get out, take your card and leave. To collect the car you need to go to the same garage letter (let say garage D) and insert the card, you pay and after less then 5 mins its in your hands. Only problem is that if there is more then 2 persons you have to wait for it, but there is more then 1 'garage' per parking according how big is the parking
It would solve the problem of boat trailers if they put one in Birze! push the trailer on, drive the car away & park it, go fishing, come back take the car to the trailer park hook up recover the boat, drive home!
But remember Placebo, YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT! :D
Guys have you got an idea about the costs of such a complex system???
And then what would be the estimated time to recoup investment.
1. Let us assume this is built in Sliema and let us assume that all spots are filler for 3 times a day. Let us assume a charge of 5 euros. Therefore 5 x 3 = 15 euros daily per slot. Then multiply by 500 cars = 7500 per day. now multiply by 365 days (assume that there are no really quite days) = Euro 2, 737500 per year.
Curently any capital investment is assumed recoupable within a maximum of 7 years as by the 10 year it has to re ammodernised.
Therefore total revenue 18 million euros.
Costs to consider. Land to buy. Demolition, excavation and then the actual investment. By that thim you will be already tooooo near the 18 million figure to even consider such a thing.
In my opinion the only way for this to succeed is that the gov provides land for free to a developer and then the developer can at least waiver the land cost. For such a project one would require an area of around 5/6 plots (Sliema type - wide and long).
One also can consider building upon such an area but than the additional cost to make a safe structure would seriously increse the cost of such a project.
THE ONLY way for this to succeed is to increase the price to customers.......

Mellieha u left out a fundamental factor..........all ur reasoning is right but the one major drawback is that the damn thing runs on ELECTRICITY.......try to recuperate that in a hundred years LOL.......plus the damage done by the fluctuations provided by ENEMALTA.....and the cost quadruplicates............It was a nice dream while it lasted........

Maintenance costs (spares,tech support),insurance for a facility of that size...i think even 100yrs maybe optomistic :)
