Eating fish in a restaurant tends to be expensive wherever you go, so I think what it really boils down to is the freshness of their fish and the size of the portions offered for the price paid. Whilst I enjoy fish, I tend to prefer meat so I don't order fish when going out to a restaurant but both Porto Bello in Bugibba and Blue Creek in Ghar Lapsi seem to have nice fresh fish.

One of the best names in fishing restaurants is 'Ix-Xlukkajr Restaurant' at Marsaxlokk. It has a daily selection of fresh fish which are showed to the customer before ordering. Been their once...very very good!

This is a very subjective debate, and it all boils down to personal preference.  Porto Bello in Bugibba is a very good resturant, and guaranteed fresh fish and sea food.  Another favorite of mine is Is-Sajjied in M'xlokk.  Both get very good reviews.  I used to be a regular at la favorita, for many years.  I also used to take any business contacts I had there for lunch, as the food was always excellent and service quite charming.  Then once, I ordered Kahli and the fish had a very bad stench to it.  I discreetly called the owner over, and told him, and he replaced the fish immediately.  Next time, I ordered Capullaz, and again this was so undercooked, the frozen meat in the middle was still intact!!, talk about freshness!.  As Nick pointed out further up, fish tend to be expensive, so I expect that the order, before being served to the customer, is thoroughly checked, and if ordering fresh fish, I expect fresh fish.  What's the use of choosing your fish at the display, only to be served something from the freezer.  Now I was a very regular customer there, say twice a month with the Misses, and very regularly with business contacts.  I never visited again.  I don't mind paying good money as long as I get the required level of service.  However, I do mind when someone trys to shaft me, not once, but twice.
Is-sajjied in M'xlokk is at present my 1st preference choice when I want to eat fish.  You're guaranteed fresh fish, and for sure the one you choose at the fish display is the one you get.  The fish is cooked to your preference, and the choice of side dishes is abundant.  The owner is Mr. Baldacchino, and no, we are in no way related. :-))

it looks like is-sajjied is getting the most startss over here :)  I will definetely give it a try.

Mostly I go to la favorita for the mixed shell fish platter wich is very fresh, abundant and not very expensive.
