Hi There,
This is my first post on this forum.  Been following quetly for a while now..  Well done to the Forum Administrators for this great website..
Yesterday morning went out trolling for the first time, and caught a really nice big Kahli  a mile or so off L-Ahrax.  Great experience, considering that this was several times bigger than the ones we normally catch from land..
So, now I'm hooked and looking forward to the next fishing trip, which can't come soon enough.......
Cheers

Well done, never caught them myself and didn't know you could trolling! Were you close to land, approx speed, and using feathers etc?

We were using the small fish type lures, a mile or 2 off l-ahrax.. could have been beginner's luck.. but who cares  ;D

Hey I'll take whatever I can get luck wise!! I've never caught a Kahli trolling - so it's good to hear about your catch - I know it may be a bit late but it would be nice to see a pic of the fish - how big was it??  Sunday morning caught a very nice vopa down in Zurrieq - it was about a foot long - the biggest I ever caught....

on sat morning i also caught a big vpie like that from there was nice but then a DOLphin showed up and that was the end of that story

				hiya there....
also my first post on this website, a great place to learn more and more on our hobby....
i also caught a kahli when trawling about 1-2 miles off ahrax... was quite choppy though and didn't catch anything else. After all the target always has to be one fish. Any additional ones are more than welcome!! Apart from the kahlija my friend caught a couple of branches of seaweed.   ;D
hehe better luck next time!!

so he caught enough to make a salad lol  ;D

Its quite normal that you catch kahli on trolling. I find white small Octopus lures to be the best. With regards to location, most of my catches are normally 1 mile out from Ahrax and 1 mile North East from Comino. The best time is 1 hour before it gets dark, with the 20 minutes after sunset being the best.
An older technique is to troll with a small spinner or white feather and hooking on a small white snail (broken of course).  However personally I've had much more luck with the white octopus lures.
