July16th
Aug 13th and 20th
i'm impressed that you are all taking this so seriously!! very well done, it will pay out :)
Will try to pop over - having been brought up on float fishing using champagne cork floats and 0.30 mm line I am finding it difficult to master more modern equipment and techniques so I am sure that there is much to learn from watching the pros at work.
It would be nice if you had a good crowd chearing on.
well done !!!! i know how difficult it is representing your country in an international comp.
I will try my best to be there
These competitiors needs all the support that any one can give. A big effort is being done by these people to be prepered for there big event. Apart they using there free time for this big event, they are even forking out money from there pockets.
Since this is the first time that 2 teams are participating in such event under the name of Malta, against world champions, my wish is that a good performance will be given under the name of Malta
I did manage to spend an hour or so there. It was interesting to watch very good anglers catching fish using the running float on very light tackle, a technique which I am trying to learn.
In just an hour or so I feel that I have learnt a lot about this type of fishing. While I have read various articles about this type of fishing you do learn so much more by actually seeing it being done by experts. While watching the action I also had a good conversation with one of the chaps involved, who was very helpful guy and answered in detail my many questions about the techniques involved. These competitors are clearly very well prepared and deserve to do well. Good luck to all involved.
I was there as well spent some time near placebo, it was nice to see such dedicated anglers landing some nice fish. Well done to all of them and good luck for the competition.
yes mate it was a great venue ... mullet and giltheads did not stop biting.
With over 20kgs of netted fish it turned out to be a great place to get some speed fishing

will be fishing the main pier (outside) with bolos tomorrow morning .......... maybe some Gozitans will indulge in Sport Fishing ???? who knows the first ever Gozitan to compete in shore Angling at highest levels
some general information ..... there are other competitions and if next year Malta teams up well there are other possibilities for boat fishing (big game), shore sea spinning and beach ledgering. If this year someone manages to organise a league and pick up national teams for these events it will be great!

Good luck! really wish to see you winning even though i don't know you! Make sure you take a good number of maltese flags! :)
Good luck to Placebo and team.
How did it go? I tried to look up results in the above web page but among the many tables I could not find anything directly related to seawater float fishing
You will not find any results as the float fishing was cancelled! It was a wonderful experience and team Malta placed 2nd and 6th on first day.
2nd day everything was cancelled since infringements from the Italian team were discovered and some countries turned away and did not want to fish again!
An enquiry is now in process by the FIPS MER in Luxembourg and could be that team Malta will end up winning the gold!
Anyway it was a wonderful experience with a huge organisation and we are looking forward for next year in Spain! After all fishing is not all about competition and winning ...... there's much more one can get from such experiences
this is what exactly happened

Well I'm glad to hear you guys had fun and did so well. As you wrote it was one heck of an experience and that is the most important aspect and that the team got on well.
It's a shame to read that after all that planning and expense, some technical infringements spoilt things for everyone :(
Well it was too good to be true! After the first day being in such a very good position we were overjoyed ........ with some effort we could have easily won the 2nd day as we all had a plan what to do the next day.
Fishing a new place is not easy guys ... there are much different things and fish do not behave the same way as you have learnt in your country.
But it all ended like that as the Italians (most of which are people from who we have got all the tricks and learnt) turned out to be the cheaters using very small hooks and putting on weight catching ridiculous small fish like cawl while the rules stated that a smaller hook than size 10 can not be used.
Anyway guys ...... apart from float fishing there are also many other disciplines that we can participate in as nation. Hope you can pick out one of them and work towards reaching a goal. The event was marvellous .... many new friends ... many fishing contacts ........ some free fishing tackle like Mommoti lures, Tenya and other stuff. There is much you can win from such tournaments!
As a consolation at least i have the Italian shirt which by the way they came in numbers to exchange afterwards!
No wonder I could not find the results! However it is shameful to see the 'home' team resorting to that sort of obvious cheating - Did they honestly think that the other teams are foolish enough not to realise that you simply cannot catch cawla after cawla with hooks size 10 or bigger?
Anyway placing second in the first round was an excellent result. Congratulations. Good that overall you enjoyed the experience.
well done Nelson coming first is nice but the experience is Priceless that u carry with u all ur life.
congrats the same guys.
