Title: which wet suit is best ?
Post by: erdooom on July 23, 2011, 21:05:46 CET
Hope this one will get a little more response ... i have a new 5 mm suit and an old 3 mm, on my part of the med it is getting to hot to use the 3 mm, but i get the water is much colder over here, still do you guys use mostly 5 mm ? or some thing lighter this time of the season ?

Thanks,

Perhaps as a spearo its diff to a diver but if u r a skinny chap you r gonna feel colder. Ive noticed in the past few days some wicked chilly thermoclines a few m below the surface. True with a 5mm u're gonna melt on the boat and be warm at the surface. But if u r lurking down at 15m for a min or two, even with a surface sea temp of 25.8C yesterday I would hang on to your 5mm.

If u get cold your body is going to expend more oxygen to try and warm u up I guess so less bottom time. But I'm no spearo so could be I'm off the mark. EmicMalta is super skinny, SimonG more natural insulation! Perhaps they could give u better pointers LOL

Is it a memetic suit?

Us spearos always pray that time comes for us to lighten a bit our equipment, so that we can do some better apneas, and carry less weight.
So It is 100% definite that I will never dream of wearing a 5mm at this time of the year, as all my other spearo friends. Definitely bring along your 3mm.
Obviously if you dive down below the 18m mark, there you will experiance termocline and water will get much colder, but it is a nice sensation after having spent a couple of hours exposed to 37degrees at surface.

Thanks guys :) sadly i was too late in asking, so i went along with my 5 mm suit, which turned out to be too much, but not extreme. i managed some times with only the top half and the others with the hat off. You guys have some beautiful sites !!!
