Greenhorn and James, when somebody tells you that everywhere is good, they are not lying.  This is because predators follow their prey, and as a spinner you must learn how to look for these signs.  It is pretty useless for me to tell you to go fishing at the Pixxkerija, I haven't been there in a while anyway and I do not know what the situation is.  Predators are very mobile fish, one day they might be in one spot the nest they will be in an other.  Even sunset and sunrise makes a difference on them.  So be prepared to move around a lot.  Do not expect to find one spot and stay there all day, take only the tackle you need and walk along the coast and look for the fish.

The point is Lures.  I might send you to a particular spot to fish, but unless you have the right lures the predators will not be interested.  95% of the spinners in malta use long jerk minnows, like the Crystal Minnow or the Mommotti. Those are deadly lures for Barracuda, and Sawrell might even attack them too, but maybe something top-water might work better.  You need to keep a selection of lures with you and learn to experiment with colours, shapes and sizes.

Spinning tends to become expensive if you are really serious about it, but once you master it the rewards are very good.

very good post. The only issue is that if you are like me and come for 5 days in Malta, the leg work is difficult to do.. So I did book a guide to take me out :)
