Title: knots for spinning
Post by: L-Ghaxqi on October 13, 2011, 08:20:03 CET
Hi guys,

I just bought for the first time a braided line...as you know you have to tie a leader of monoline infront of the braid. Do you know some simple but hard knots to do so?

Thanks

There are various existing threads related to your question. Just use the search, relax and read...ex: http://maltafishingforum.com/talk/index.php/topic,1170.0.html. Most popular knots that you can try to do are the improved Albright knot, Tony Pena, Uni to Uni and the Bobbin Knot (this one might take a little more effort). I suggest you try the first 2 and see which one you are most comfortable with, both knots are quite good.

uni to uni l ahjar ghoqda ghal spinning (ghal leader).

L iktar importanti li torbot l ewwel ghoqda fuq l spool qabel tispulja l braid ghax joqghod jislipjalek ghax grat lili u kelli nhottu u nerga nispulja

FG and PR are the best knots around (PR knot is the bobbin knot)

I found best as a beginner the 'double uni knot' and the l 'Albright special' .And as Ken82 suggested spool some mono before the braid.
For fishing knots I found this very helpful :

Has anybody ever had the problem of lines exactly cutting from the knot?
When I do a knot and pull it hard it snaps and if I just pull the line  its ok

When I was going to buy the braid I did some research on the net and I read an article about lines/braids and it said that there are some types that can break when they take sudden strikes .

@ sargos- for some reason the page is not loading but thanks anyway.
@ freedive my problem was when doing a knot at the swivel and pulling it hard to make sure it was ok it cuts from near the knot. to think maybe the line is defective. but when i grab the line with both hands and pull nothing happens. to join fluorocarbon to braid i always use the albright or the double uni knot. and once while casting the the leader cut in mid air leaving me watching a 9euro lure make an air show :)

The easiest to fall apart for sure. It might be ok for mono to mono in light fishing but forget it for braid to mono especially or heavier fishing. At the moment I`m using the PR-knot done by my fishing buddy but I`ve used my modified Albright for some years and never had problems.

i always use this knot which i find quite easy and strong. we dont expect to catch 30kg fish from shore, do we? :)

You never know! It s not as impossible as most people think.

Sargos.. it is not common.. but It can happen.. I know people who caught 25Kg+ by spinning from land..

If it happens to you and you lose the fish of a lifetime over a crappy knot.. you will not forgive yourself for a long long time ;)

My suggestion for tying on a leader to your braided line is the Tony Pena knot.  It is not hard to learn and you can master it in an evening.  The only other better alternative is the PR Knot using a bobbin.
