Best bait is mackerel.  A good alternative would be either sardines, shad, european sprat or calamari

That's a very interesting question.  If you're planning on going out for tuna with live bait, then be prepared with a good amount of chumming bait.  Depending on which side of the coast you'll be heading to.  If you're sticking to the east coast, I always hand my bait down in 20mtrs, where as the west coast, you'd be looking at selcting various depths raging from 20 to maybe 60-70mtrs
