OMG......
all I know is that i hear that if you have a lock and u use these kind of lubricants regularly, the lock wears out.....
and if you cannot use it on certain types of plastics/rubbers, ...once I used it on a rubber washer/o ring supposed to hold a torch waterproof, and it melted the o ring.
Well this is a nice piece of info... but I still prefer not to use it... I'd rather use silicone lubricant instead.
Wd40 huwa water displacment supost gifiri jekk ixarablek xi wire u trid telimina l ilma hu tajjeb izda bhal ma qal Baghira fejn jidhlu washer u affarijiet tal plastic trid toqghod attent bih !!! jien kont nuzah ukoll billi naqla kappa ta l outboard u ntih hasla bih wara li nuzah imma l parts ta rubber kolla tqarqcu qabel iz zmien!!!! TSI-301 is used on firearms and is a dry protectant/lubricant meant for metal. If plastics are involved then TSI-321 is a recommended product
l ahjar li tahslu b ilma helu u thalih joqtor. WD40 tajjeb pero iva il lastiku jibda jitiekel...l ahjar silicone grease.
Just rinse it with fresh water if it is an elastic spear gun. The trigger mechanism should not corrode if you have a serious spear gun as a it should have a stainless steel trigger mechanism. It is worth dismantling it and giving it a serious cleaning every now and then especially if you use it in sandy and dirty sea environments. A Bit of spray will also help the trigger mechanism....avoid greasy things to triggers as they form cementish material around it especially when in contact with sandy particles.
As regarding the elastic bands it is useless to cover with talcum powder (as I also used to do when I was happy with my first couple of spear guns). Latex bands have a life span and when they are almost half way through they start forming micro cracks at their ends which will eventually become larger ones. Avoid prolonged U.V. Light and any other hot objects to latex as it is the worst enemy!

i had a look at the 2000 uses in that wd40 pdf , in the fine print is a disclaimer:
"The uses of WD-40 described on this website were provided to WD-40 Company by end-users of the product, and do not constitute recommendations or suggestions for use of WD-40 by WD-40 Company. These uses have not been tested by WD-40 Company. Consumers should exercise common sense whenever using WD-40."
i read wd40 is 25% petroleum, petrol ruins soft plastics.
unless you have a sticking mechanism i dont think you should spray anything, this also goes for doorlocks, spraying will just make it sticky and dust and sand will stick to the parts. for door locks you use dry powdered graphite
lubricant (its like pencil lead)
for knives you use silicone grease, i dont have a spot of rust after years of sea use .
I agree 100% that WD40 has the tendency of hardening the rubber while silicone grease has many good properties especially for rubber. Whenever I dismantle my air speargun I rub all the rubber with silicone grease. It will help for the preservation of the rubber and to serve as a lubricant to moving parts
