Title: boat repowering,registration requirements
Post by: billy67 on October 03, 2012, 13:13:23 CET
Can anyone please give me some information when repowering an mfc registered boat and what are the requirements regarding re registration of the new engine or engines or if it effects the boat registration from fisheries side if fitting an outboard instead of an inboard ?

Billy67 - I appreciate you asking the question here, and no doubt you will get a lot of answers.  And this is exactly what I mean, 'a lot of answers' when you only need one answer.  Best if you also seek the word from the authorities concerned, in this case, Fisheries.  They are the best people positioned to answer your question. They are only a phone call away. Call them on 22031211

yes it still is phoned today and mfc registered boats can only upgrade to 100hp outboard, anymore and you have to drop the mfc registration, unfortunately i have to drop my mfc reg. and register as S as i am re powering with an outboard greater than 100hp as mine is a 22ft boat well i guess regulations are regulations.

At 22 feet, I would be inclined to register the boat Valletta, allowing you to leave the 12nm territorial waters. At the moment there isn't much of a reason to go MFC and with the STUPID outboard limit like you said you have no choice.

This outboard limit is totally crap! I just cannot understand the reason why these regulations are never updated. There must be some hidden agenda somewhere!
Billy67 from experience I can tell you to really consider Skip's comments regarding registration if you intend going out of the 12nm zone
