Title: Poppers
Post by: browntrout on October 06, 2014, 21:20:39 CET
Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has any advice for using poppers from the shore? Just bought a couple of Halco Roostas and want to give them a try.

Use a light spinning rod with high quality braid for smoothness.  Cast out and make sure your drag is very light.  Then you start giving sideways jerks x2 and wind one revolution per jerk.  After two jerks stop for about 2-3 seconds and then start over again.  Its important that the drag is set in a way to take any extra jerk power so the lure doesnt jump out of the water.  The moment your lure skips out you have given away your stealthyness.  Dont use large poppers, those are useless from land.

One more question that has just occurred to me... Are there any particular colors or patterns that work better than others?

You will need to try different ones.  What works today might not work even an hour later!
