For a small boat 's' with a motor between 9.9hp and 25hp do you need to have insurance by law?? And when you buy a bahri do you need to transfer it from the seller to the buyer ??? Thanks
Regarding insurance, i'm not so sure.. but for transfer, if it's registered with Malta transport Authority, it has to be transferred from seller owner to buyer.
Thanks mark but i need to know about the insurance if someone knows??
I think for motors greater than 9.9hp you need a third party insurance.
Even if you dont leave the boat at sea ,you take it to your garage every time do you still need it
Rather than a question of need I think its more worth as regards to the peace of mind, that if something happens at least you have some 'back up'... Especially since you are towing the boat every time and something might go wrong. The cost of insurance is low, if not mistaken less than Eur 100 for a year so I guess its worth it.
Yes your right but if its not by law i wouldnt insure such a cheap boat btw the motor is 9.9 so it wouldnt need insurance?
By law insurance is required for boats with engines above 10 hp - so you don't need insurance if the engine is a 9.9 hp. But even if the boat is cheap, check whether at least third party insurance would be worthwhile - what if you accidentally cause serious damage to an expensive car while you are trailing your boat? Are you willing to pay the full costs of repair yourself? Or, worse case scenario God forbid if you accidentally injure a swimmer or diver? Damages awarded can run into tens of thousands or much more in such cases
Thanks for your helpful replies,i found a quote from gasan mamo and it was around 70e so I'll be insuring it then like you said you'll never know what might happen. Maybe I'll look for a motor 25hp then :P
