Title: big game shore fishing
Post by: Simon G on May 30, 2006, 12:33:28 CET
hi guys now that the good fishing season started it is time to bring out the big guns and aim for big fish

my techniques for fishing big game from the shore are

1 heavy spinning rod  with a very good reel (HIgh capacity some fish will run) and a very good line

2 beach caster with running float

3 light carbon rod with spinning reel (my favorite)

bait depends on what you are going for

Gar fish, saddled bream , cuttle fish and mullet are usually the best bait both live or dead (MUST BE FRESH!!!!!!!! NOT MORE THEN 12 HOURS DEAD AND ALWAYS REFRIGERATED NOT FROZEN !!!!!)

my technique

on a calm day i find a spot where there is stucture (REEF, SUBMERGED ROCKS, DROPOFF, ETC ETC)
cast the line with a weight on the end over the structure, have the live bait on a seperate line 5-7ft long with a snap swivel on one end and the hook(S) on the other.  when the bait is hooked (best place to keep it alive is right in front of the eyes ) attatch the swivel to the line and let the fish swim away

Was just about to ask for more detail then read it again  :) How do you get the weight back? Or do you uses stones or sand filled balloons? Also does the line not wear and break?

what i do is use a sand filled ballon as a weight on a rocky bottom
on reefs i use fin shaped weights (they get stuck less often)

My main line is spectra fiber it does not wear out easily as for nylon i use 50 diamitre fluoro carbon for the hook end or go direct with spectra fibre (power pro)

Might have to give that a go.....I think what you call fibre I call braid, Ive a reel with decent braid on ill pack that as well

Hi Dak,

Indeed Spectra is a braided line, its considered the rolls royce, better than Dyneema but effectively they are all braids.
