Il-Bezz  Iside Cabin 500 – Marino powered by Evinrude Etec 90 hp

17ft Cabin – boat weight 630Kgs

Well after getting the boat this April, I rigged it up with the necessary equipment and also re rigged all other and by the 3rd week of May it was ready to be launched. At first there where some unexpected teething problems to be solved and also some necessary fixes to be done. However these have been addressed and other custom alterations have now been effected. So basically this summer I had to assign myself to these issues which spoilt a bit the fun and hope that next year it would be a more relaxed – pleasant summer.

Although not that good looking the Iside is a very practical boat having ample storage space. The boat is easy to maneuver, handles well and a pleasure to drive – very comfortable in fact. Although I only encountered a F4 wind it proved very stable when cruising. In choppy waters appx F3 hitting F4  when deep bottom fishing I felt that it rocks slightly more that the boat I had before maybe due to its deep v compared to the other which had a more flat hull.
The cabin is very spacious and two can sleep very comfortable. In fact we spent a night
on it on two different occasions which where quite nice. It also has space for a portable toilet and a camper cooker. Space at the back is good and the boat is good for trolling however not that practical for deep bottom fishing if using a hand line and not a rod. In fact it's very annoying for hand line use.

With regards to constructions the boat seems well built with long- side beams and the finish is good. The cabin upholstery is well made and fabric material-colour is pleasing.

The engine

The boat is powered by the Evinrude etec 90hp. Personally the etec is a performer. It hums and goes. Seeing 30 knots at 5100- 5200 rpm wot with a15inch prop  while cursing at 18-22 knots at 3500-3800 rpm and 24-27 if not mistaken was at the region of 4200. Planning takes off at 2800rpm with two persons or seven it doesn't seem to make a difference to the etec while at full throttle it managed to go to 4800/4900 with 7 on board. no record of speed is available but I would easily consider 25/26knots.
Fuel consumption on a rough calculation is about 1L per NM @ about 24knots.
I only trolled with the etec for about 1 and half hour @ about 1400rpm and fuel consumption seemed negligible and there seemed no problems even if throttle response was required. i.e no flat spots on acceleration.

The aux fitted is a 9.8hp  managed to get about 5.5knots at nearly full throttle and consumption was about 5L per 1.5hr to 2hr   depending on the sea conditions. basically one will expect 1.5hr for every 5L at F3.

Il Bezz has not brought any luck with regards fishing but it will next time round.

Very nice write up, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. You did the right thing this year to get her to specs and getting used to her, now you can enjoy fishing knowing how your boat handles and having all the extraas that you wanted done to it.
I would suggest a type of waterproof throw over on those seats, so that you dont spoil them with blood.
It looks easy enough to launch and retrieve so winter fishing will be easy , Klamari near tal Mara or kubrit next to fishfarms or deepsea fishing when the weather is suitable.
Good luck and may you enjoy her for a long long time

Nice write up Ian, I think these are very useful coming directly from the boat owner as it helps others get a good idea of how a boat actually runs on the water, engine etc.

thanks guys for the comments. Yes shanook i will do the throw up covers, its a good idea. With regards to launching and retrieving its quite ok. In fact i retrieved the boat with the help of my 13 yr old daughter. while my wife was there holding a rope at the back just in case we didnot require it. neither the side guides were required. i dont plan fishing in winter cause its a bit of a hassele to get in / out of the garage. Its a tight fit with only 6 inch on both sides, have to lower the trailer fully down from the front to get it past the upper part of the garage and only 2 inch are available (or remove the windscreen), than have to remove the front part of the trailer otherwise I wont be able to lock the garage .apart from the pushing and pulling but hand to get it in centrally. I will opt for land fishing  ;D

pity as it would have made a fantastic fishing boat for the winter months. Oh well next project a NEW GARAGE and dont forget to include living quarters in it as thats where u might end up :)P

nice boat and write up. I'm sure that next year you will be more relaxed, since you had to iron out some teething problems you had this year.
