Fishfinder or Fishfinder with GPS

Hi,

I'm looking for a Fishfinder or Fishfinder with GPS to mount on an 18foot speedboat with 140hp engine on it....

No budget set yet but definately not more than 600 euro.

I am open for suggestions!!!

When I looked it was cheaper to buy a combo unit than separates.

At the time I went for the Lowrance 527c as it was on the only GPS/Chartplotter/Fishfinder/smart display unit in budget.

Now it has been replaced by the HDS models. I bought mine on special from West Marine for under your budget. Around ?465

that is the sole line of reasoning. also i usually go with ppl who just have a boat, so having my knowledge portable helps

Hi Guys,

I have a Lowrance X50 fishfinder and its manual says it can read as deep as 300 mtrs. Problem is mine never manages to read more than 100mtrs, which is 1 third of what the specs says.
Sensor is mounted at the back between main motor and left side of the boat. Swithcing frequency between 200 and 83 does not improve things.

Anyone has a clue? I know that in salt water, the range is reduced, but by 3 times I think it's a bit too much. ANyone has an X50 with which you achieve more than the range I'm achieving??

That's why you carry a cheap handheld GPS to get you back home.

Personally on a smallish boat I think it's pointless cluttering the dash......aside from equipment failure, if you have electrical problems chances are you'll lose all units either way.

It has to be a combo as there is only room for one since there is a glove compartment already!

@ mahi mahi the 83 freuquency is used in fesh water. for deep sea water it has to be 50 frequency

@ Busumark - so you mean Mr.Fish sold me a fishfinder that is only good for freshawater applications!
No wonder it's reading only the 3rd it is supposed to!

i think that the transducer has to be 50 200 hz the unit is still the same. the transducer 83 200 hz is good for freshwater and 50 200 hz is good for saltwater. go to mr.fish and tell him that you want the 50 200 hz transducer and tell him why. if he tells that this is not true or that the transducers are the same if he is a salesman tell him to speak with yosef if yosef tells you the same thing tell him to check the things better before he sells a product. and he replaces the transducer for free dont give him any extra money. keep us informed about what happens.
