im new in here but i noticed that the subject of surf / beach casting always generates quite some enthusiasm. I just got myself some new tackle and tried it out at Ghadira, i used korean, american and palella got my best results on korean a 1.850kg awrata. If anyone is particularly interested in this kind of fishing please contact me...i'm still learning to cast properly i'm using an off the ground technique and i im almost hitting the 100 meters with a 150 gram sinker...anyway if anyone is intrested i do believe that this type of fishing is almost still unexplored in malta

Went a couple of times but It wasent really productive for me. What setup are you using ? Paternoster, running leadger ?

Gazzetta

Me, ForTuna, CamKev, BigBoy and Lapsiboy are also doing some beachcasting !!

Last time we went to ghadira and had some stikes and catches.

Used different bait from American worms or korean to bibi and CamKev also uses ta l imperjal.

Freeman, i am using paternoster rigs i bought some online but i had to modify them a little bit. The one that was most successful was a one hook set up with a snood of about 1 meter long which goes beyond the sinker and it clips to the main line with a bait clip.

Gazzetta what's Camkev?........i also managed to get some greedy bait worms but they were whole ones pretty bigger than those on sale here. I had a few strike on the as well.

really would like to try is someday as i never did......what would be the bext way to set the rod?

Thanks

Reelin

you have to go for distance so a long rod that casts some big wieght up to 250 grms is neccesary. I would also recommend a surf casting reel it really did a lot of difference in my casting range. the spool is kinf of longer but the shaft is wider.

im also looking forward to have a try... just one question...with such a long snood why don't you use running leisure ??? cause i think that way the snood easily gets entangled with the main line.....

Reelin

yeah that was happening to me the first few times but there is a solution to it. the snood come off the main line from a swivel and i place a two inch long uni-tube right into the swivel and there's no tangling. Which is also a great idea when you are using two snoods. Altough i must admit the running ledger is a good idea as well. I do not use it that much anymore as not my new reels have a bait runner system.....btw rammx saw some of your catches on pics impressive!

rammx

hehe :) 10x alot mate...
i think thats a great idea to put the uni-tube,,,was also thinking that when casting with running leisure you loose some casting distance when compared to paternoster rig...and if im not mistaken its a must to reach long distances in beach casting...

Essexdave

I like the idea of Camkev as a bait.
Hey Kev would you mind attaching yourself to my hook one day?  lmao.
That way I won't have to cast out but you can swim.
;D

Reelin

yes exactly you're right rammx you loose casting power and moreover with a paternoster you can use a bait clip which is very useful both for making the rig more aerodynamic and also for presenting the bait more naturally due to the force of the cast because as you said you have to aim for distance...altough that's not always the case....but long distance casting is a very addictive experience believe me

For greater distance look at the "Pulley Rig", it can be clipped up or down, lifts the lead quickly from stony ground too, I use it a lot when distance is important! ;)
