I got a decent size barracuda on a jig yesterday. Didn't know you could catch them as well.
Me too! in fact im hitting into quite a few nice 'cudas by jigging..go figure!!
I also missed a really big AJ on sunday (spinning again...2nd time this season  :() it took off on a screaming run & then violently shook it's head & broke off my .50mm leader like it wasn't even there!  :o Tbh it almost pulled me into the bloody sea with it too on the initial take!!! I didn't actually get a look at it,so i am only assuming it was an AJ...but tbh nothing else pulls/fights like them!! and considering my mate caught his 10min after i lost mine, its pretty safe to say it was a BIG ambie!

My friend AJ was a smaller sized one (approx 3-4kg) and he managed to get it to shore but it came off the gaff & escaped..we weren't very happy bunnies that day i can tell you!!!  >:(
But i suppose the upside is at least we had a bit of action i guess....

I am still trying to find a way how not to loose AJs! Till now I hooked 5 or 6 AJs on Jigging, but none of them has seen my fridge yet! I must admit they are the best runaways I have come across!

They are one of the best fighters that you can catch fairly frequently if you find the right spot fot them.Especially when you consider that even a small AJ can still put up one hell of a fight! Also one of the best eating fish we have too!  8)

Depending on the size could be the hooks you are using are too small or you have them rigged too far down on the jig. I use pretty big hooks when jigging. Though glad to see you're getting hits as the last 2 jigging trips i've been on we've returned empty handed.

The Hooks I am using are just big enough so that the lure can pass through (So it does not get stuck). They are rigged roughly in the middle of the lure. I suspect that one or two of the hook ups where "Serqiet", meaning they did not take the lure, but struck them in the action. However in the other cases I think it is a question of experience with these fish. The biggest one I hooked I tried to bring it in the boat ASAP, which cost me dearly!
