The Department for Environmental Health within the Public Health Regulation Division wishes to inform the public that it has been following an e-mail in circulation, airing serious concerns about the dumping of a harmful chemical into the sea, with the purpose of reducing the effects on health resulting from jellyfish stings.
The Department for Environmental Health has, during the last few days, been inundated by concerns from the public receiving this e-mail. The Department however assures that there is no room for concern, particularly since the source of this e-mail is unknown.

Furthermore, it does not make any logical sense to dump chemicals in the sea, taking into consideration that chemicals will be diluted hence reducing drastically their effect. The way the e-mail is written is also without any scientific basis.

The Department for Environmental Health urges the general public to call on telephone no. 2133 7333 between 08:00hrs and 15:00hrs from Monday to Friday for any further queries or to report any illegal dumping.
