predapro is very good for lizzijiet but not sure about AJs.

I think it will manage a strike from AJs in coming days but people have to try it more.

now it's the real time that AJs start coming in and there is a good chance.
a method which surely works is one small hook from the mouth of the fish and another on the belly. But that is something you adjust according to size of bait being used.

there is also a good method of trolling with pieces of fresh squid which is also good.

the best method is trolling with a whole live squid but i never tried it out and i think it is the best!

whichever method you go for is make sure you troll dead slow like Skip instructed.

Predapro can be used aswell with live fish bait not squid though. I have a friend who used it with live vopa. Since now on predapro fish caught mainly were lizzijiet some of them near the 5 kgs mark, serrer, plamti and even some AJs.

The problem is that people who are useing predapro are not using it well. The two main reasons are using bigger bait that it is recommended. The current predapro is for bait fish from 10 - 15cm. In the coming weeks there will be another size for bait fish from 15 - 22 cm.
Secondly people are trolling it at 1.5 - 2 knots only. Predapro is designed to be trolled from 3 - 4 knots to have the full results. People are accostumed to troll at 1.5 - 2 knots max because if it is live bait with more speed will die or if it is dead bait it will spin above the 2 knots mark.

How does the fish not die with the Predapro when trolled at the recommended 3-4 knots?

cla144

Live fish will die at that speed but if you rig the fish and troll it at 1.5 - 2 knots it wont't die with the predapro. The predapro is recommended to be trolled at 3 - knots because you are using death bait fish in order to obtain the wobble with the tail like live fish.

Live fish can do the wobble on their own since they are alive :)

I'm afraid that is incorrect.  Live bait is trolled at 1.5 to 2 knots to allow the live fish to swim of its own accord, this will definitely attract predators since the action is all natural and live.  The fish will not be emulating any swim action, but actually will be swimming in the general direction of the troll.  I used to practice this technique very often in my younger days when I had the small 12 foot fregatina and the the 16 foot kajjik.  One must be very careful when rigging so as not to disturb the fish action.  The correct way of rigging up is to insert a very small fish hook between the fish lips, thus keeping the fish's mouth closed, and then, very carefully and without touching the fish's backbone, insert a hook at the back of the fish, bottom side, only just penetrating the skin.  If the backbone is touched by the hook, the fish will die.  I used to go through great lengths preserving small bait fish for this, and sometimes just attache the main hook to the back using floss, without hook penetration.  This ensurs that the fish is kept alive.  Every 30 minutes or so, I'd change the live bait, as the fish will no longer have the energy to swim and exhibit the unique characteristics of a wounded fish in action.  Remember, predators will attack a wounded fish in preference of a strong swimmer.  Less energy used while hunting, more energy preserved to hunt again!!!.  The predators motto is go for the weak!

I agree with you that predators go for the weak. I don't think that 4 knots is fast trolling. The slower you go the more chances you are giving the predatory fish the chance to inspect the bait more carefully and maybe notice something unnatural and dont bite.

Take for example jigging. The jigs that are used do not resemble in any way the profile of bait fish. The jig when jigged fast gives those erratic movements which induces the predatory fish to strike. The movements that they emit are very fast by far more than any wounded fish.

The_Gaffer

Agreed, but with jigging, the fast upward motion and the momentary stop gives the impression that the fish (jig) is in distress.  This is what attracts the predators...a weak fish.
