There are other species fish and crustaceans that although they are not protected they are under control. Like lobsters etc. I will check about these.

Arti, if the creature has died or left the shell for perhaps a bigger one, may the shell be kept....

I think the animal is protected not the empty shell. If left it may be broken with the rough sea current so I think if I keep the shell I am not doing any harm.

I remember as a kid we use to take bucket loads to eat on the rocks and discard the shells as berley while my grand father use to fish with his cane pole...good memories.
