I am confused..Sure that mfc and s registration cannot fish swordfish in the open season?

The_Gaffer

MFC and S registration cannot fish using surface longlines. You need a special fisheries permit to fish for swordfish.

Im not sure but i think if  you catch sworfish while trolling you can keep it even having s and mfc since trolling is permitted and there are no restrictions for trolling except for bft.

bigboy

swordfish cannot be kept with s and mfc.

shanook

Big I think that lapsi is right. MFC can keep sworfish caught by trolling but we have to report it and it is checked........

The_Gaffer

If you are found to have swordfish during the competition you are disqualified. That's what the rules state.

Thanks tony i tought so.
The reporting goes to everyone even mfb and mfa. There are only Certain harbours where one can enter with swordfish. The ones i know of are St.Pauls Bay, Marsaxlokk and The Grand harbour at the pixkerija. The catch must be reported and the surveyer will be waiting at the  pier.

shanook

gaffer you are right......competition rules state that one is disqualified if caught with a swordfish........but it is also right that MFC can keep a swordfish in open season caught by trolling.

bigboy

Last regulations i read were that swordfish are only allowed to be caught by MFB and MFA vessels.

venere

So let's make it clear guys, if any one in the competition catches a swordfish or any another kind of species during the competition that is not an Albacore will be disqualified? And should it be released?

snapper

I agree with you....swordfish caught with other means than surface longlines can be kept. one have to call the surveyor to be recorded. I am not sure about the special permit.
I hope that catching a swordfish of certain size remains a right for sport fisherman after all it is not so easy to catch.. especially the big ones.

shanook

No venere its not a matter of any type of fish but the swordfish and BFT that are not allowed and will get u disqualified.......if its any other fish u can keep but it wont count for the competition its just Alungi that count.

venere

Understand now shanook,thanks

Based on the Luqa Superforecast http://www.windfinder.com/weatherforecast/luqa @ 18:00
and
Dingli Cliffs Superforecast http://www.windfinder.com/weatherforecast/dingli_cliffs&wf_cmp=2 @ 18:00

The wind is not forecast to be consistently above 11 knots before the competition ends therefore we are going ahead as scheduled.

The Competition is therefore CONFIRMED for tomorrow 29th June.

Reminder concerning rules/recent clarifications

1) If you are caught with Bluefin Tuna or Swordfish on board during the weigh-in you WILL be disqualified as per the rules

2) Issue with number of hooks: The rules state that no long lines can be used, during the briefing we mentioned only one hooked lure but we did not expand on the issue of live bait rigging. If you intend to use live bait then we will permit a pilot hook so that you can have a hook in the nose and a hook under the belly for drifting/trolling.

3) Rapala style lures which typically have two treble hooks are permitted

4) Daisy Chains (more than one lure inline behind each other) are permitted, so long as you only have one chase bait (the lure at the end with a hook) that is rigged with a hook

5) Please be aware that the support vessel Seafox Ch.06 will be carrying a camera crew and may approach from your 2 o'clock position to film your hook - Do not be alarmed they will maintain a safe distance and not interfere with your fishing activities

6) If you are catching fish and want to be filmed you may contact the support vessel Seafox on Ch.06 with your position or mobile number: 99829877

7) If you will not be coming to the weigh-in please notify us on Ch.06 ORIS1 or ORIS 2 and if you don't receive a radio response on mobile number: 99802843
As you approach the weigh-in location please notify us on the radio how many fish you have onboard for weighing on Ch.06
