Red monofilament/Red hooks

Hi mates,
            I was asking myself since I am seeing different cataloges about tackle,what is red mono used for?Some people told me that it's good for squids!?! About red hooks I saw fishermen using them especially with worms and had good results.What do you think about them?

Hello Spitec, as far as I know we use the Red monofilamnet for squids and Kavalli by night cause the red disapperce completely in the dark. On the hook I used red once and common once as wel and I think that it's only the coating which is different and that they are sharper but for me they don't have any difference for fishing.

Still I'm interested to learn more from other opinions.

yep spitec red hooks are used on worms. They do not make much of a difference but they are used on worms.

Normally the red finish is just coating which goes away after some casts!

About the red mono....yes in Malta it is very popular in squid fishing.

i think that only the colour red disapears not the line. the line is still there and is seen in another colour. i think that it appears as black. when i saw a documentary about diving and there isnt a lot of light the corals are seen as black or dark brown when they light a torch on them they become red which is their colour. so i think that red line does the same thing

I belive red is the first colour to disappear in a few meters, it should turn greenish if i'm not mistaken.

actually it is a busumark said but i tried it myself and did nt notice any difference in squid season.

have anyone ever noticed any difference in catches?

regarding sale of this item i can guarantee it sells well SPITEC during the squid season.

Maltese really love to use red monos in squid seson. I recall very good sales of this product as from October with all squid jigs and stuff.

So if u're into importing red monos go ahead Spitec.....will sell for sure.

sorry to revive a dead thread, but bought some red mono last week and apart from the fact, that it seems quite brittle (i tied a knot and pulled to fasten) it broke twice. ( i did wet the line before securing) - i did a search regarding the brand, in this case i believe it was called Ockert. Do you know that this is basically Kite line :O

my bad!! found another ockert website today that makes fishing lines, must have been drunk when i saw kites, but im sure i did. s!#@

ockert makes both kite line and fishing lines.. And some rods..  The fishing line make is climax..
