I really like the boat by True World Marine, that is the one on the first and last photo.  It's a great fishing boat and great for maltese waters.  In fact this year they already shipped a couple of them to europe.
I was also impressed by the quantity of boats powered by yamaha outboards....I say 90%!  Standing next to a yamaha 350 you get the feeling of power offered by these gigantic motors...they are a beast!
Was also looking at the fishing rods....buying a very good quality rod and reel plus shipping to malta would cost around $800....do you guys think this is worth it???

Great pics and thanks for posting them, you're very lucky to have been there for a big boat show.

Alot of boats are Yamaha powered as they have been pushing in recent years to sign exclusive deals with the manufacturers so that only Yamaha engines are offered. In return the manufacturer gets huge discounts.

Some manufacturers push Yamaha as a preferred power option but will also do other engines as well.

As for the rod/reel, what set up were you looking at?

I think it's too late for this year, we would have needed to set up and arrange things way in advance as the event is near the end of this month.

I was also told that off-shore sport fishing boats are being built around the yamaha 350.
As for the fishing rod, I am looking to buy two rods for alungi for next season....was talking to the guy from chaosfishing.com....he has nice good rods but with delivery to Malta and a very good reel, it would cost $800 or even a bit more.  I don't know the prices in malta, but do you guys think its worth it??

And by the way, im going to use the rod for tuna, alungi and lampuki......If I still remember correctly, somewhere the Gaffer wrote that he bought his rods from the US for half the price in Malta......that's why im asking if the price I was given is worth it or a rip off!

Gazzetta

From Malta for a good rod with 100 Euros you'll manage I think.  You can use a 30 lb rod for lampuki and alungi but for tuna I'd rather use at least a 50 lb one !!

In terms of rods, I think any of the decent branded rods are fine, something like a 30-50lbs is ideal. Shimano do the 30-50lbs Catana which is a proper tuna rod, guides and a roller tip for around Lm40 or so.

The Gaffer buys combo's from abroad, but with the shipping costs of rods I tend to prefer to buy locally myself.

Reels, this has been covered quite a few times, but Shimano TLD25 is a very good all rounder for Malta, Tyrnos 30II if you're into some jigging/bottom fishing as well as trolling, and the Senator Specials 114 if you're happy with a star drag.

Reels for Tuna tend to differ to Alungi etc as you want 700-900 yards of line capacity in general but for the type of tuna we come across, let's say up to 30kgs you should be fine with the 600 yards you get from the above reels.

The Shimano Talavela rod that I purchased from the net cost me around Lm50 including shipping.  Its a 30-50lbs rod with aftco rollers and fugi guides in the middle.  Great Tuna rod, fast action and only 5'9"long!!

Thanks Guys....the rod itself was not that expensive around $200...but the good reel was $400!    But anyway I think that is too much......
