| MartinB Posts:665 | January 17, 2011, 20:28:38 CET Absolutely! All large U.S. companies are ISO compliant (as are most countries of the world since 2008) and to achieve (and esp.maintain) an ISO certification requires stringent quality control procedures and is backed up by regular inspections, some of which are unannounced/random..(I used to work in the manufacturing sector locally and abroad) and ISO standards require that even components made by companies under sub contract from the main manufacturer have to be ISO compliant also. Having said that i think i know where clutchkick was coming from when he said "gone the made in china route" and he has a valid point,as the shimano stradic has a european version which is made with materials of lesser quality than the version produced for the U.S. and japanese market. Obviously however there is a big difference in the price of these 2 versions!! and the reason why Shimano made 2 versions of differing quality i think was purely an issue of competitivity in the european market..So be careful if your thinking of purchasing a Stradic reel and make sure you buy the better quality US/Japanese version. It may be a bit more expensive but the difference, esp in the long run,is huge! What i usually do before buying a reel is check around on fishing forums (and fishing buddies obviously!) on the net and ask people who own and use one what they think of it!! ![]() |

| MartinB Posts:665 | January 16, 2011, 22:15:19 CET Yes i know mate! there is alot of back on forth on the U.S. forums about it esp. with the striper (striped bass) fisherman community but despite Van Staal "moving" to china the general consensus is that its a matter of personal pref. between Van Staal & Zee reels,as the quality of the product(s) has not been affected by the whole cheaper materials/Lower costing product issues,as with other reel manufacturers of late. In fact the prices of VS reels are still the same.I think the move was probably more a matter of cheaper labour/manufacturing costs in china. In fact the VS reel bodies, spools, rotors, and internals like the gears and traverse guide are still machined in the U.S and the assembly is done in china..Not that it would make any difference if they were actually machined in china also..Just for an example off the top of my head, the largest supplier of components for the immensely popular Apple i-phone is a Chinese company based in Shenzhen! | MartinB Posts:665 | January 16, 2011, 19:14:37 CET Nice one mate! went for a spin today but nothing doing!! but it was nice day to be by the sea re Zeebaas ZX-20.. mintix cucc siehbi!! they are very nice reels! but if 'father xmas' was getting it for me id ask for a Van staal!!! Although i also have the same stradic and apart from a bearing going on it which was the bearing on the bail arm which winds line on the spool (..which was an easy fix tbh) its a very good reel too! especially the drag which is the smoothest of any fixed spool reel ive owned...so far ![]() |
| jean Posts:110 | January 15, 2011, 17:58:46 CET Fantastic!!! Well done! Didnt have the time to try the T-Jerk yet, but had a few throws with the Mommotti. Still have to learn how to jig it correctly, yet very impressive stuff i must say. |
