Post by: Grave on February 27, 2009, 22:23:21 CET
Hi everyone,

Can someone please tell me a good method of how to troll for kahli? I have heard and seen possible "rix tal kahli" but I was not convinced at all. any suggestions on this type of fishing for this particular fish please?

Use 3-5cm white feathers. 18- 25mm line (use 18 if fishing with rods) and troll close to shore @ 3-5 knots ;)

Note: Do not use any swivels or lead weights ;)

Best trolling times 7 - 11am and then 4pm till dark

sorry for the stupid question but 3-5 knots means slow or normal speed?

our boat is equipped with only 10 hp of engine power. its just a small "frejgatina" lol

thanks for the feedback :)

It's normal trolling speed.. Usually we troll at 4knots..

In your case grave since it is a fregatina i am sure at full throttle you will be doing 7-8 knots..so if you leave tha gas half way open or a little more you are good to go ;)

i do not think at this time of year is very good for catching the kahlija with rixa as it does not bite in surface.

maybe i'm not sure beacuse anyway i never tries at this time of the year. I will start such kind of fishing in May.

As placebo said you will start catching kahli end of may all the way to october. Right now you can try your luck for tumbrell and plamti with the rixa

yes there is a big amount of tumbrelli this year i think. we went once only for 2 hours and caught 13 tumbrellis. it was a very nice experience. it was like my 3 rd time i went for tumbrelli and caught something. last time we were bottom fishing and we could hear tumbrelli go up at the surface. the water was like a mirror then. when we caught them it was a bit windy thats why we lasted only 2 hours. tought i'd tell you so that u can try your luck too. gd luck people.
Thanks for the info :)

Pupu, I think 0.70 line is a bit thick. I would put the weight a bit further as well. If you are not using a rod better go for a 0.4 to 0.45 leader for the last 20m and put the weight just above the joint.
With a rod you could use tinner lines.

thats why i have no bites mela, i use rod so .30 is fine i think , just 1 problem to tie main line to leader is there any other method than swivel cause when u retrieve you'll end up the 20m leader you retrieve by hand because of the swivel. i

i fish on rods and never did a 20m leader  -  just 1mtr leader is enough.

i have 30mm in reel while 0.25mm leader. i also use black swivels (barrel only in such case)

always use a leader on swivels since it helps to avoid twisting the line due to trolling

try using double uni  knot or the blood knot both are good here is a good link for knots  http://www.netknots.com/html/double_uni_knot.html

No pupu, not good. You need to adjust your equipment. Normally fishing for kahli is with 0.18mm line. Some people use a small white feather or put on white plastic maget.

no need for 0.18mm as you will end up using a landing net.

0.25mm is good enough to fish production my friend!!!!!!!!!!

The double uni-knot is a very good knot when tying line of the same or similar diameter.  A good connection lines of different diameter is the albright.
